Viola Gooden
Mother of the Church at Limestone Missionary
Viola Gibbs Gooden, 96, of Gaffney died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Brookview Healthcare Center.
Widow of Walter E. Gibbs Sr. and the Rev. Doc Gooden, she was born in Cherokee County, a daughter of the late George W. Gibbs and the late Lillie Ellen Littlejohn Gibbs. She was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Mother of the Church and Sunday School pianist.
Surviving are a son, Richard C. Gibbs of Spartanburg; two daughters, Hattie Mae Shippy of Columbia and Martha G. Littlejohn of Gaffney; three sisters, Pauline Hutley of Brooklyn, N.Y., the Rev. Julia Tate of Gaffney and Lillie Ellen Thornton of Flint, Mich.; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. A.J. Smith. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
Flower bearers and pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Honorary bearers will be the deacons and deaconesses of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of Martha Littlejohn, 1712 W. Buford St.

Forest Gordon
Retired textile employee
Forest Eugene Gordon, 76, of 124 Kent Train Rd., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Doris Gibson Gordon and son of the late Janie Bright Gordon and stepson of the late Ade Gordon. He was a retired textile employee and of the Baptist faith.
Also surviving are three sons, Jackie, Randy and Mickey Gordon, all of Gaffney; three daughters, Gloria Phillips, Delores Morris and Rhonda Miller, all of Gaffney; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Phillips of Gaffney.
Mr. Gordon was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Bright, Jack Gordon and J.D. Gordon.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by the Rev. Charlie Wilborn and Richard Sellars. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Stacey Phillips, Wesley Gordon, Andy Phillips, Cline Parker, Johnathon Miller, Marvin Ramsey, Casey Gordon, Ronnie Sellars and Mickey Bright.
The family is at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Suite 101, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Drayton M. Clary
Services for Drayton M. Clary, 84, of 404 E. Buford St., were held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by Dr. Bobby Morrow and Jimmy Moss. Burial was in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Mike Gallman, Keith Wood, David Hendrix, David Moody, Tyler Christopher Hendrix, Case McKinley Wood, Jason McDuffy Wood, Drayton McClary Moody, David Jesse Moody III, and Michael Kye Gallman.
The family is at the residence.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jermaine Jefferies
Services for Jermaine Jefferies, 24, of 102 Mascot Dr., will be held today at 3 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church conducted by Drs. U.D. Vernon and James W. Sanders Jr. and the Revs. Danny Tate and Lawrence Davidson. Burial will be in Green Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Foster Funeral Home is in charge.

Lottie Bridges
Services for Lottie Louise Byers Bridges, 72, of 1626 E. Frederick St., widow of Pon F. Bridges, will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. James W. Sanders Jr. and the Revs. Arthur J. Smith, Heyward A. Boyd Sr., L.C. Knuckles and Mary D. Jefferies officiating. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-7:30 at the church.
Honorary flower bearers will be retired teachers of Cherokee County and members of the Indian Hill Senior Citizens Club.
Active flower bearers will be Ola Sue Ashe, Annie Lois Beard, Catherine Davidson, Eula Johnson, Robena Poole, Sarah Ann Reddish, Jeanette Whittenburg and Mary E. Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be retired educators of Cherokee County and active pall bearers will be the deacons of Bethel Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Pondrienna B. Stevenson, 302 Serene St.
Mrs. Bridges, a Gaffney native and retired educator, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
