Christine Camp
Cherokee County native
Christine Camp, 83, of 183 Baxter Rd., widow of Deacon Lloyd Camp, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at 12:25 p.m. at her home.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Linder and the late Feanyle Smith Linder. She was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church where she served as a deaconness, Sunday School teacher, president of the Missionary Society and directress of the Senior Choir. She was a member of the Vocal Singing Convention.
Surviving are four daughters, Delilah Camp and Annie Sue Camp of the home, Betty C. Vernon and Everlean Allen of Gaffney; two sons, George Camp and Johnny Camp of Gaffney; a sister, Ruth Littlejohn of Shelby; a brother, B.L. Linder of Gaffney; 27 grandchildren, three of them, Lori Lipscomb, Aaron Lindsay, both of Gaffney, and Clarissia Buckson of Miami, Fla., were reared in the home as her children; 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church conducted by Dr. U.D. Vernon and the Revs. Dewey Whittenburg, Lucious Whittenburg, Willie E. Mayes and L.C. Roberts. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers and flowers bearers will be the deacons and deaconesses of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, respectively.
Honorary pallbearers and flower bearers will be members of the Mount Sinai Senior Choir.
Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Jones
Newberry County native
BLACKSBURG – Sarah Sliegh Richardson Jones, 71, of 213 Wilbur St., died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Widow of Johnny Jones and Clyde Richardson, she was a native of Newberry County and a member of Hopewell Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, John Adam Jones and Michael Richardson, both of the home; a daughter, Dorothy Williams of Gaffney; a step-daughter, Easter Mae Vinson of Gaffney; a brother, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete. The Gilmore Mortuary.

Jerry Lee Brooks
Former owner of Brooks Home Entertainment
Jerry Lee Brooks, 59, of 545 Robbs School Rd., died Thursday, Feb, 1, 2001, at his home.
A native of Rutherfordton, N.C., he was the widower of Caroline Reel Brooks and son of the late Ladd Brooks and the late Alice Padgett Brooks. He was former owner and operator of Brooks Home Entertainment and was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Brooks of Gaffney; a daughter, Tessa Waldrop of Shelby; a step-daughter, Lynn Davies of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Roger Aycock and the Rev. Alan Peeler. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and other times will be at 611 Robbs School Rd.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grassy Pond Baptist Church, 254 Grassy Pond Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29341.

Edith W. Ellis
Gaffney native
Edith W. Ellis, 82, of 4820 Irvington Ave., Jacksonville, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Quitman Ellis of the home and daughter of the late O.H. Whelchel and the late Folsom Wilson Whelchel. She was a former sewing company supervisor and a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Lonnie Q. Ellis of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Grissom of Gaffney and Lucy Mildred Rouse of Inverness, Fla.; and a brother, Charles Rochell Whelchel of Beverly Beach, Fla.
The family will receive friends today from 1-2:30 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dewitt Clyde.
Pallbearers will be Joey Ellis, Scottie Scruggs, Matthew Grissom, Buddy Blanton, Ricky Blanton and Steve Whelchel.
The family is at the home of her sister, Evelyn Grissom, 309 Whelchel Rd., Gaffney.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 8031, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret M. Sprouse
Former S&S Mfg. employee
Margaret Mathes Sprouse, 77, of 403 Chatham Ave., died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Union County, she was the wife of Fred Sprouse and daughter of the late John Mathes and the late Pearl Cudd Mathes. She was a former employee of S&S Manufacturing of Spartanburg and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Rodney “Moto” Sprouse, and three grandchildren.
The family is at the residence.
