Horace Echoles
Horace Lee Echoles, 71, of 190 Sizemore Rd., died Saturday, May 19, 20001, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Palmetto, Ga., he was the husband of Marie McAbee Echoles and the son of the late Leroy and Katie Echoles. He was a retired construction worker and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Nora Teal and Mary Long.
Also surviving are five sons, Roger Echoles, Benjamin Echoles, Willie Theodore Echoles, David Echoles, and Jimmy McAbee, all of Gaffney; three daughters, Lisa Mullinax, Joann McAbee and Dora Hamrick, all of Gaffney; half-brother, Charlie Echoles of Georgia; two half-sisters; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Tommy Wright and Harold Dean Painter.
Pallbearers were Daniel Gibson, James McAbee, Larry McAbee, Roy Lee Franklin, Wayne Lyles, Michael Carter, Bobby Parker and Randy Carter.
The family is at the residence.
Memorials may be made to the Cherokee County chapter of the American Cancer Scoiety, P.O. Box 1095, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.

James Deaton
James Elbert Deaton, 84, of 1031 McKown's Mountain Road, died Thursday, May 24, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Brenda Sue Deaton and the son of the late James Albert Deaton and the late Florence Waddell Deaton.
He was a retired mechanic and a former Baptist preacher.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Margie Nicole Griffin of Blacksburg, Sally Morris, Phyllis Rogers, Della Rector and Bonnie Crowe, all of Gaffney; three sons, Wesley Crowe, Dennis Deaton and Walter Pete Deaton, all of Gaffney; a brother, Fred Deaton of Pacolet; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Sammy Ray Deaton.
The family is at the home of Wesley Crowe at 1035 McKown's Mountain Road.

Theodore Rainey
Funeral services for Theodore "Tookie" Hopper Rainey, 47, of 505 Cherokee Ave., husband of Frances Rainey, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Indian Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Mary Jefferies, Rev. Lawrence Davidson and Dr. James W. Sanders, Sr. will officiate.
Burial will follow in Limestone Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Indian Hill Baptist Church.
Flowerbearers will be Bridget Brannon, Jackie Brannon, Lillie Brannon, Corrine Dawkins and Delphima Wood.
Pallbearers will be Fred Austin, Darrell Rainey, William Smith, Calvin Tate and J.W. Williams.
The family is at the home of Carolyn Coleman at 505 Cherokee Ave.
