Dan L. Smith
Member of boards of directors of Meals on Wheels, Boys and Girls Club
Dan Lavender Smith, 69, of 609 Anthony St., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at his home.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Caroline Lewis Smith and son of the late Ervin Eugene Smith and the late Ruth Lavender Smith.
Mr. Smith was retired from textiles and was a Mason and Shriner. A member of the Gideons, he served on the boards of directors of Cherokee County Meals on Wheels, Cherokee County Boys and Girls Club and the Will Lou Grey School in Columbia. He was a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church where he was a deacon and teacher and a member of the Andrew Club. He taught a Sunday School class at Magnolias of Gaffney every Sunday morning.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Sharon Miller of Gaffney; a son, Dane Smith of Gaffney; two sisters, Virginia Truluck and Sue Melton, both of Gaffney; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and other times will be at the home of Sharon Miller, 166 Brittany Rd.

Bonnie Lipsey
Former missionary to U.S. Virgin Islands
Bonnie Ceil Jolley Lipsey, 69, of 630 Colonial Ave., died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Brookview Healthcare Center.
A native of Geraldine, Ala., she was the wife of Billy Wayne Lipsey of the home and daughter of the late Joseph Ashton and Allie Loftin Jolley. She was a 1965 graduate of Tennessee Temple Bible School and was a former missionary to the U.S. Virgin Islands. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two brothers, Laurice Jolley of Depew, Okla., and Cordell Jolley of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Melba Reed of Dayton, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Edward McAbee and Chaplain Rodney Cragg officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1-2 p.m.
White Columns-Blacksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Pearl M. Henderson
Services for Pearl Millen Henderson, 86, of 523 W. Montgomery St., were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by the Rev. Joe Paul Turner. Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Douglas Crawford, Leon Millen, Tony Millen, Bobby Wayne Scruggs, Barry Millen and Brian Millen.
The family is at the home of Yvonne Crawford, 380 Beaver Ridge Rd.

Marcia Shari Rodgers

Marcia Shari Dukes Rodgers, 57, of 102 Gettys Dr., died Tuesday morning, June 12, 2001, in her home.
Wife of Donald Rodgers, she was born in Gaffney, a daughter of Minnie Butler Dukes of Gaffney and the late Warren Dukes Sr. She was a 1960 graduate of Granard High School and attended Barber Scotia College in Concord, N.C.
Mrs. Rodgers was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church and an employee of Encompass (formerly Sanders Bros., Inc.)
Also surviving are three sons, Marcus Rodgers, Brian Rashaan Rodgers and Billy Keith Narayana Rodgers, all of the home; step-daughter, Tania Gill-Worsley of Charlotte; a sister, Juanita Brown Littlejohn of Gaffney; two brothers, Warren Dukes Jr. and Benny Dukes, both of Gaffney; and one grandchild.
Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church conducted by Dr. J.W. Sanders and the Revs. A.J. smith and Roderick Oglesby. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Bearers will be Granard High School Class of 1960, nieces and nephews. The body will be placed in the church Sunday at 2 p.m.

Eleanore P. Conner
Former Gaffney resident dies in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Eleanore Pearce Conner, 83, of 1709 South West 5th Place, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of 150 Foxfire Dr., Gaffney, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at her home.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., she was the widow of Ralph E. Conner Jr. and daughter of the late Ellis M. Pearce and the late Gertrude Bowden Pearce. She was a retired secretary and member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Marblehead, Mass.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane P. Conner of Ft. Lauderdale; a son, Dale Conner of Laurel, Md.; a sister, Jane P. Bower of Marblehead, Mass.; a brother, Walter Pearce of Ambler, Pa.; a granddaughter, Angelique Pierce; and a nephew, John Pearce.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery conducted by Father Gordon Hamilton.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
