Lee Roy Carson
A memorial service for Lee Roy Carson, 81, of 108 Kirby Rd., will be held today at 11 a.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Dan Youngblood.
The family will receive friends any time at the residence.

Dessie G. O’Hara
Gaffney native
BECKLEY, W.Va. – Dessie Roberta Griffin O’Hara, 78, of Westwood Drive died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born May 26, 1923, in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late George V. and Clara Belle Kitchens Griffin. She spent her childhood in Gaffney and resided for 31 years in Ebensburg, Pa., where she was a member of the Holy Name Roman Catholic Church and the Ebensburg Birthday Club. She had been a resident of Beckley since 1973, was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church, the Catholic Daughters and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. O’Hara was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Vatie Griffin, in 1966.
Surviving include her husband of 58 years, Robert Leo O’Hara; three daughters, Kathy Kelly of Ebensburg, Marty Grubb of Lexington, Ky., and Shirley Hunt of Memphis, Tenn.; six sons, Jim O’Hara of Oak Hill, Mike O’Hara of Ebensburg, Dave O’Hara of Pittsburgh, Pa., Tom O’Hara of Angier, N.C., Carl O’Hara of Beckley and Robert L. O’Hara II of Charleston, W.Va.; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today in the St. Francis de Sales Church with the Rev. Samuel Sacus celebrant.
Pallbearers will be members of the Father Halpin Council of the Knights of Columbus.
Additional services will be conducted at the Matevish Funeral Home, Ebensburg, Pa., with burial to follow in the Holy Name Cemetery on Wednesday morning.
Donations of sympathy may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

William L. Barrett
Served in U.S. Army at Pearl Harbor
FORT MILL – William L. Barrett, 83, of 108 Jason Court, passed away on June 15, 2001, at his home.
A son of the late William Arthur Barrett and Eva Gibson Barrett, he was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Gaffney. Mr. Barrett was a graduate of Burton’s Institute of Charlotte and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving at Pearl Harbor. He retired from Celanese Corporation where he worked in the stores department. An avid traveler, he and his wife visited all 50 states and all of the Canadian provinces.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Flint Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Grady Fault, Bruce League and Lee Davies officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Love Barrett of the home; a daughter, Patricia Barrett Strawn of Knightdale, N.C.; a sister, Sylvia Barrett Mills of Myrtle Beach; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his brothers, John Alan Barrett and Harold Dean Barrett, and his sister, Evelyn Barrett Sherman.

Richard E. Jones
Peeler Rug Co. employee
Richard Edward Jones, 42, of 101 Short Alley, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Kings Mountain, N.C., he was the husband of Gloria Jean Henderson Jones of the home and son of Edward Jones and Peggy Strickland Jones, both of Kings Mountain. He was employed by Peeler’s Rug and was of the Baptist faith.
Also surviving are two step-daughters, Teresa Crowe and Linda Kay Henry, both of Gaffney; two step-sons, Jimmy Dean Lewis and Roger Pruitt, both of Gaffney; a brother, Ernest Jones of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Penny Perry and Lisa Jones, both of Kings Mountain; and four step-grandchildren.
The family is at the residence.

Alice B. Whitmire
Grandmother of Gaffney resident
PICKENS – Alice Bowers Whitmire of 502 E. Cedar Rock St. passed away on June 15, 2001.
A native of Pickens, she was 91 years old and was the daughter of Elbert G. and Nancy G. Bowers. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis E. Whitmire Sr., and daughter, Alice B. Cook, of Pickens.
She is survived by two sisters, Nora Ashley and Mildred Thompson of Greenville; a brother, Bill Bowers of Pickens; a daughter, Mrs. Richard E. (Nancy) Campbell of Spartanburg; a son, Louis E. Whitmire Jr. of Pickens; and grandchildren, Ann Chappell, Ervin Whitmire, Chris Whitmire, Wade Whitmire, all of Pickens, Richard E. Campbell Jr. of Simpsonville, Dena Campbell of Duncan, Brently N. Campbell of Neosho, Wisc, Kim Cherry of Gaffney and Allen Kirsh of Colonial Beach, Va.
Mrs. Whitmire was a graduate of Draughon’s Business College and was executive secretary of Pickens County Selective Service Board. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served for many years as a volunteer for Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church. The family met with friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
Active pallbearers were Donald Chappell, Ervin Whitmire, Chris Whitmire, Wade Whitmire, Richard Campbell Jr., Bentley Campbell, Jonathon Chappell and Landon Campbell-Cook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 309 E. Cedar Rock St., Pickens, S.C. 29661.

Elizabeth S. Chicky
Retired from Sugardale Meats
Elizabeth Sedensky Chicky, 89, of 688 Corinth Rd., died Thursday, June 14, 2001, at her home.
Born in Bluefield, W.Va., she was the widow of Gabriel Chicky and daughter of the late Joseph Sedensky and the late Julia Vinczi. She was a member of Buford Street United Methodist Church was a retired from Sugardale Meats.
Surviving are three sons, Elmer Chicky of Gaffney, Joseph Chicky of Canton Township, Mich., and Alex Chicky of St. Clair, Fla.; three sisters, Annie Loosie, Mary Susko, both of Amherst, Ohio, and Barbara Gainok of San Diego, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Chicky was preceded in death by her stepson, Gabriel Chicky, and her daughter, Betty Kutcher.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Buford Street United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Scott Wachter. Another service will be held in Canton, Ohio, at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Welch-Jekeres-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Canton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buford Street United Methodist Church Family Life Center Fund, 120 E. Buford St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
The family is at the residence, 688 Corinth Rd.

Charles “Bud” Jefferies
SPARTANBURG – Graveside services for Charles “Bud” Jefferies, 64, of 175 Old Pacolet Hwy., will be held today at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Cowpens conducted by the Rev. Jackie Dover.
The family is at the home of Marvin and Thelma Simpson, 175 Old Pacolet Hwy.

Evie C. White
BLACKSBURG – Evie Cobb White, 90, of 904 Cherokee Falls Rd., died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at Peachtree Centre.
Arrangements are incomplete. White Columns-Blacksburg is in charge.

Dorion D. Adams
BLACKSBURG – Dorion Demond Adams, 4-month-old son of Dwayne Adams and Demetria Hopper of 206 S. Charleston St., died Saturday, June 16, 2001.
Also surviving are a brother, Dwayne Adams Jr. of the home; a sister, Dashonda Adams of the home; maternal grandparents, Rhonda and William (Harvey) Oglesby of Gaffney; paternal grandmother, Mary Allen of Gastonia, N.C.; maternal great-grandmother, Arstrilla Oglesby of Gaffney; paternal great-grandmother, Sally Degree of Shelby; maternal great-great-grandmother, Corine Sims of Chesapeake, Va.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Oglesby, 2007 W. Buford St., Gaffney.

Horace “Bill” Parker
Blacksburg resident
BLACKSBURG – Horace Junior “Bill” Parker, 79, of 209 Bolton-Parker Rd., died unexpectedly. He was the widower of Mozelle Towery Parker and son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Horace Edgar Parker.
Surviving are two daughters, Sonia P. Broome and Dixie Parker, both of Blacksburg; a son, Roger Dale Parker of York; three sisters, Babbs Puzzert and Joan Simmons, both of Gaffney, and Judy Martin of Cliffside, N.C.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at White Columns-Blacksburg and other times they will be at the home.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Clingman Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Marshall Foster officiating.
