Lillie Mae Woods
Cherokee County native
Lillie Mae “Moody” Woods, 75, of 1000 Clary St., died Sunday, July 15, 2001, at 12:20 a.m. at her residence.
She was the widow of Horace Woods and daughter of the late Hollis Dawkins Sr. and the late Fannie Littlejohn. She was a native of Cherokee County and an active member of Greater New Faith Baptist Church.
She is survived by six daughters, Joann Edwards, Della Sanders and Evangeline Adams of the home, Isabel Logan of Shelby, Modestine Goods and Kay France Woods of Columbia; three sons, Nathaniel Littlejohn of Oxion Hill, Md., Terry Woods of Gaffney and the Rev. Willie Woods of Blacksburg; eight sisters, Eunice Smith, Marva Littlejohn, Verlie Littlejohn and Jerline Dawkins of Gaffney, Rosa Lee Jefferies, Thelma Allison, Elizabeth Borders and Bessie Lee Littlejohn of Shelby; four brothers, Kenneth Littlejohn of Shelby, Zebedee Littlejohn, Lyman Dawkins and Hollis Dawkins Jr. of Gaffney; 23 grandchildren, seven of them, Terry Manning of Charlotte, Jimmy Woods, Catina Woods, Quejune Woods, Devina Manning, Carl Edwards Jr. and Markcus Woods of Gaffney, she reared in the home as her children; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Indian Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Mary D. Jefferies, Randy Borders, Antoinette Gardner and Roger Mason officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m.
Honorary and active flower bearers will be the grandchildren and nieces. Honorary and active pallbearers will be the grandchildren and nephews.

Deacon James R. Elliott
Services for Deacon James R. Elliott, 83, of Brook Hollow Road, Earl, N.C., widower of Lizzie Leila Elliott, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church in Blacksburg with the Rev. Larry J. Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7- 8 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church
Pall Bearers will be deacons and trustees of Youngs Grove Baptist Church.
Flower bearers will be members of Youngs Grove Baptist Church Missionary and Deaconess.
The family is at the home of his nephew and niece, Oscar and Roberta Elliott, 506 Marietta St., Gastonia, N.C.

Willie Sarratt
Service for Willie Sarratt, 81, of 213 Sierra St., husband of Janie Dawkins Sarratt, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Mikes Creek Baptist Church conducted by Dr. S.M. Johnson, the Rev. Michael Bridges, Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., Dr. Leon Rector, Bishop G. Leach and the Rev. Warren Manning. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers and flower bearers will be his nephews and nieces, respectively.
The body may be viewed at Mikes Creek Church Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Willie Dean and Mae Frances Sarratt, 564 North Gate Rd.

Dolly V. Thompson
Employee of Hardees
BLACKSBURG – Dolly Vinesett Thompson, 42, of 109 Whisonant St., died Monday, July 16, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Savannah, Ga., she was the daughter of the Rev. Odis Vinesett of Gaffney and the late Virginia Pritchard Vinesett. She was employed by Hardees and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by a brother, James Vinesett.
Surviving in addition to her father are four daughters, Tina Bolin, Sharon Camp, Lori Thompson and Shealey Thompson, all of Blacksburg; three sisters, Connie Hardison, Deborah Ellis, both of Gaffney, and Carol Vinesett of Blacksburg; two brothers, Jerry Vinesett of Florida and Jackie Vinesett of North Dakota; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Edward McAbee. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Greg Gardner, Orlando Huskey, Jimmy Roland, Hoss Ellis, Ben Wilson and Bob Wilson.
The family is at the home of Rev. Odis Vinesett, 1840 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, and at the residence, 109 Whisonant St., Blacksburg.

Eunice P. Stevens
Retired from Quick-As-A-Wink
Eunice P. Stevens, 74, of Brookview Healthcare Center, died Monday, July 16, 2001, at 1:18 p.m. in Up-state Carolina Medical Center.
Widow of the Rev. Roy Stevens, she was the daughter of the late Jasper Peeler and the late Luvenia Littlejohn Smith. She was a native of Cherokee County and a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Gospel Choir, the Combined Choir and the Sunday School. She was a retired employee of Quick-As-A-Wink.
Surviving are a brother, Gene Peeler of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Sarah Davidson and Laura M. Rankins of Gaffney; and a niece and nephew, Bernard Richard of Bridge Port, Conn., and Kym Ricrards Harris of England, who were reared in the home as her children.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at noon.
The family is at the home of her niece, Mary Douglas, 117 Iris Lane.

John E. Atkins Sr.
Electrician
COWPENS – John Edward Atkins Sr., 40, of 158 Mandy Lane, died July 16, 2001, from injuries sustained in an accident.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Gloria Jones Atkins and son of Paul Donald and Mary Wood Atkins. He was an electrician and member of Harbor Baptist Church, Spartanburg.
Also surviving are a son, John Atkins Jr. of the home; a daughter, Valinda A. Robinson of Chesnee; two brothers, Roger Atkins of Clifton and Daryl Atkins of Pacolet; a sister, Linda Gail Atkins of Chesnee; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Donald Atkins Jr.
The family will receive friends tonight at the home of Paul and Mary Atkins, 297 Crenshaw Rd., Gaffney.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church Cemetery, Gaffney.
Pallbearers will be Luther Frazier, Brian Jones, Roger Frazier, Michael Frazier, Jason Kirby and Guy Lyda.

Jannah Brooke Horne
Jannah Brooke Horne of 706 Buck Shoals Rd., 6-week-old daughter of Jamie Horne and Jennifer Michele Joyce, died Monday, July 16, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center. She was born in Gaffney.
Also surviving are a brother, Brandon Joyce of the home; a stepsister, Tessa Horne of Gaffney; maternal grandparents, Leroy and Joyce Joyce and Tommy and Lori Turner, all of Gaffney; paternal grandparents, Doug and Nancy Horne of Gaffney; maternal great-grandparents, Mary and Frank Baitinger and Leroy and Barbara Joyce Jr. of Bridgeton, N.J.; paternal great-grandparents, Mildred Littleton of Gaffney and Hope and Carrie Horne of Union.
Services will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Skull Shoals Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Randy Phillips. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at 708 Buck Shoals Rd.
