Myrtle S. Patterson
Mother of Gaffney resident
WOODRUFF – Myrtle Scruggs Patterson, 89, of 1024 Old Spartanburg Hwy., died Saturday, July 28, 2001, in Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital.
A native of Franklin, N.C., she was the widow of the Rev. L.R. Patterson and daughter of the late Charles and Mary Mize Scruggs. She was a member of Woodruff Church of God where she was a member of the Ladies Bible Class and the Joy Club. She worked with her late husband in pastoring many Churches of God in South Carolina and the couple also served as former directors for the Church of God Home for Children when it was located in Gaffney.
Surviving are five sons, Frank Patterson of Fountain Inn, Lee Patterson of Pickens, Charles Patterson of Woodruff, the Rev. James A Patterson of Anderson and Glenn Patterson of Gaffney; a daughter, Wanda Patterson of the home; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at Woodruff Church of God conducted by the Revs. James Shealy and Thomas Ashley. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of her daughter-in-law, Margaret Patterson, 1020 Old Spartanburg Hwy., Woodruff, and at the home of her son, Frank Patterson, 641 Durbin Ridge Rd., Fountain Inn.
Cedar Hill Funeral Home, Woodruff, was in charge of arrangements.

Ben F. Millwood
Services for Ben Franklin Millwood, 79, of 3266 Pacolet Hwy., will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by Ashby Blakely. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Carter, Blaine Spies, Ernie Gallardo, Johnny Dodge, Marcus Millwood and Paul Higdon.
The family is at the home of Kay Carter, 3264 Pacolet Hwy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund, 310-B Bennett Center Dr., Greer, S.C. 29650.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home was in charge.

Charles D. Whitlock
Charles Dean Whitlock, 50, of 2747 Union Hwy., died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of Mary A. Porter Whitlock of Gaffney and the late Kydean Whitlock. He was a carpenter and member of Corinth Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a sister, Susan Whitlock of Gaffney; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Martha Whitlock of Gaffney and Guy and Dominique Whitlock of Spartanburg; one niece; two nephews; and maternal grandmother, Louise Porter of Gaffney.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Tarrent.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 190 Corinth Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Ruth Gist
Jonesville native
JONESVILLE – Annie Ruth Thomas Gist, 68, of Jonesville died Sunday in Wallace Thomson Hospital, Union.
Widow of Russell Gist, she was born in Jonesville and was a daughter of the late Jake Davis and the late Catherine Thomas Smith. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church where she served as former president of the Senior Missionaries and was a member of the Senior and True Gospel Choir.
Surviving are six sisters, Leatha Gist of Baltimore, Md., Mary Littlejohn and Helen Ruth Smith of Jonesville, Shirley Davis and Margaret Davis, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Gracie Davis of Union; two brothers, Lawrence Davis of Union and Bobby Davis of Jonesville; and two foster sisters, Willie Mae Williams and Lena Kelly of Jonesville.
The family is at the home of Charles and Mary Littlejohn, 601 Alman St., Jonesville.
Services will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Dwayne Cooper. Burial will be in Long’s Chapel Cemetery.
The Gilmore Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
