Rodger D. Batchelor
MOORESBORO, N.C. – Rodger Dean Batchelor, 61, of 1908 Batchelor Rd., died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, in Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Sue Ross Batchelor of the home and son of Beatrice Jones Batchelor of Mooresboro and the late Lynn Batchelor. He was retired from Cherokee Finishing.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two daughters, Nancy Marlene Spencer and Pamela Gayle Littlejohn, both of Myrtle Beach; two sons, Roger David Batchelor of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Edward Dean Batchelor of Myrtle Beach; a step-daughter, Allison Scruggs of Mooresboro; a step-son, Ronnie Davis of Shelby; three sisters, Martha Fisher of Mooresboro, Nancy Beattie and Margaret Young, both of Shelby; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Mr. Batchelor was preceded in death by a brother, L.D. Batchelor.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Camps Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Revs. Steve Durham and Richard Duncan. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dan Humphries, Richard Littlejohn, Keith Hammett, Edward Dean Batchelor, Roger David Batchelor, Nathan Huskey, George Jolley and Charlie Thompson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cherokee Finishing softball team and co-workers of Cherokee Finishing.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, N.V. 28150.

Hazel B. Hughey
BLACKSBURG – Hazel Beatrice Sessor Hughey, 59, of 206 E. Clairborne St., died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at her residence.
Born in Parrisburg, Va., she was the widow of Robert James Hughey and daughter of the late Thomas Sessor and the late Lucy Barnes Hughey. She worked in textiles in the pressing department.
Surviving are three sons, Timothy Scott Hughey of Myrtle Beach, Thomas Edward Hughey and Robert Lee Hughey of Blacksburg; and eight grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clingman Memorial Gardens conducted by the Revs. Jamie Ellis and Grady Gregory.
The family is at the residence, 206 E. Clairborne St., Apt. D-1, and will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Gordon Mortuary.

Margie M. Martin
BLACKSBURG – Margie Segars Manley Martin, 73, of 315 E. Carolina St., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, in St. Francis Hospital, Greenville.
Mrs. Martin was the wife of Eugene Martin of the home. She was first married to the late Columbus Alonzo Manley. She was the daughter of the late Rosalee Elrod Segars and was of the Baptist faith. She was retired from Wendel Fabrics.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Brenda M. Boozer of Travelers Rest and Donna Gale Manley of Blacksburg; two sons, Alonzo William Manley of Hendersonville, N.C., and Clarence David Manley of Blacksburg; a step-son, Mike Martin of Blacksburg; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her first husband and mother, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Delores (Snookie) Manley and a sister, Faye Johnson.
Services will be held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel with burial in Clingman Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Gordon Mortuary.
