Hoyle M. Wright
Retired from Gaffney Mfg.
Hoyle M. Wright, 80, of 3616 Cherokee Ave., died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of York County, he was the widower of Ruby Lanier Wright and son of the late Jesse and Bertha W. Wright. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and retired from Gaffney Manufacturing Co.
Mr. Wright was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service in World War II with the U.S. Army.
Surviving are three sons, Danny G. Wright and David E. Wright, both of Gaffney, and Douglas K. Wright of Blacksburg; a brother, Paul Wayne Wright to Gaffney; three sisters, Onnie W. Ramsey and Cora Martin, both of Gaffney, and Doris Martin of Smyrna; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Lynn Wright, and a sister, Alma Petty.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Revs. Tim Knotts and Alester McKinney.
The family is at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 116 Filter Plant Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Phyllis Polihronopolos
Ohio native
Phyllis G. Smalley Polihro-nopolos, 80, of 100 White Oak Dr., died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at her residence.
Born in Franklin County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Pearl Smalley and the late Lorain Dildine Smalley. She was a retired typesetter for Hiss Stamp Company and participated in activities at the Gaffney Senior Center.
Surviving are a son, John Polihronopolos of Fort Mill; three daughters, Patricia Glover of Grove City, Ohio, Christine Kiley of Woodbridge, Ohio, and Shirley Elizabeth Abdon of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; three sisters, Rosemary Dixon, Margaret Joanne Radcliff, both of Grove City, Ohio, and Delores Callahan of Gaffney; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be held today at noon at Cook & Son - Pallay Funeral Home, 1631 Parsons Ave., Columbus, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.

Bessie Mae Price
Gaffney native
Bessie Mae Price, 85, of 113 W. Third St., died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at her home.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of Leonard Price of the home and daughter of the late Joe and Lillian Sprouse Blackwell. She was first married to the late Lee Coyle and was a member of Temple Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, William Earl Coyle of Gaffney; a daughter, Lucille Price Lipsey of Gaffney; three brothers, Horace Blackwell, Cicero Blackwell, both of Travelers Rest, and the Rev. Charlie Blackwell of Forest City, N.C.; three grandchildren, Glen Coyle of Gaffney, the Rev. Lee Coyle of Fuquay Varina, N.C., and Cathy Farish of Gaffney; and five great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, Jonah, Elijah and Webster Blackwell, and sister, Eva Earlie.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church with the Revs. Stuart Kersey, Barry Goodman and Lee Coyle officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rev. Lee Coyle, Glen Coyle, Vic Farish, Jerry Blackwell, Terry Blackwell and Billy Price.
The body is at the residence where the family will receive friends until service time Thursday.
Memorials may be made to the Victory Campaign, Temple Baptist Church, 1508 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Daisy J. Woodward
Gaffney native
KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. – Daisy Juanita Pennington Woodward, 72, of 818 Margrace Rd., died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, in Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Homer David Woodward Sr. and daughter of the late Sam Pennington and the late Sarah Elizabeth Painter Pennington. She was a retired textile employee and of the Church of God faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Woodward and Nona Huskins, both of Kings Mountain; two sons, Homer David Woodward Jr. of Charlotte and William Richard Woodward of Kings Mountain; three brothers, Harman Pennington of Russeville, Ark., Yatch Pennington of Blacksburg and Roy Pennington of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Hazel Coyle of Blacksburg and Sadie Ledbetter of Charlotte; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Gene Ware. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Gordon Mortuary.

James R. Delahay
Graveside services for James Robert Delahay, 62, of 1720 Stanton Circle, Clover, will be held today at 11 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Dave Stanford.
The family is at the home of Mr. Delahay’s sister, Joann Clary, 1565 Mirror Lane, Clover.

Mary E. LeMaster
Retired school teacher
Mary Eliza LeMaster, 92, of 200 Robbs School Rd., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at her home.
Born in Gaffney, she was the daugh-ter of the late Ralph Jefferies and Della Humphries LeMaster. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Winthrop College. She taught in the elementary schools for 10 years and at Gaffney High School for 32 years which included the Veterans School and adult education programs.
Miss LeMaster was a member of the Cherokee County Education Association and life member of the South Carolina Education Association and National Education Association. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma honor society and an active member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Haile H. LeMaster Sr., of Gaffney and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Wayne LeMaster, R.J. LeMaster Jr., Dr. Hamlet LeMaster and Boyce LeMaster.
The body will be taken to the residence where the family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight.
Services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Roger Aycock and the Rev. Tommy Wright. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grassy Pond Baptist Church, 254 Grassy Pond Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29341; or to the charity of one’s choice.
The family is at the residence.

Kenneth E. Davis
Driver for Gaffney Cab Co.
Kenneth Earl Davis, 50, of 309 Ninth St., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Charlie Earl Davis and the late Etta Mae Parker Davis. He was a taxi driver for Gaffney Cab Company and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a daughter, Carol Gay of Gaffney; a son, David (Pete) Davis of Gaffney; a step-daughter, Tammy Martin of Gaffney; eight grandchildren; six sisters, Pat Garner, Joyce Blackwell, both of Gaffney, Sue Fowler of Clifton, Brenda Brown of Westminster, Gloria Davis of Seneca and Mae Buchanan of Brevard, N.C.; and a brother, John Davis of Gaffney.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Goode and Gail Millen, and two brothers, Charles (Joe) Davis and Joe Earl Davis.
The family is at the home of his sister, Pat Garner, 109 W. Carlisle St.

Bobby Hoey
Bobby Hoey, 62, of 3317 Walter Lane, Forest Ville, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001, at 11:30 a.m. in McClean, Va.
Son of Bontee Hoey of Gaffney and the late Nathaniel Hoey, he was a native of Gaffney and a member of Dunton United Methodist Church. He was a retired employee of Embassy Dairy in Waldorf, Md., after working there over 25 years. He was currently employed by Kester Wholesale Florist in Cheverly, Md.
Also surviving are two daughters, Vanessa Hoey and Victoria Hoey of Washington, D.C.; three sons, Nathaniel Crosby of Gaffney, Renrico Hoey of the home and Gregory Hoey of Washington; a brother, Richard Hoey of Gaffney; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Lillie M. Rouse
Services for Lillie“Mae” Patterson Rouse, 86, formerly of Apt. 242, Brugg Street Apartments, will be held today at 3 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Lockhart and the Revs. Albert Gray, James Thompson, Archie Calhoun and Theodore Lockhart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

Sonny E. Phillips
Sonny Elford Phillips, 40, of 32 Gordon Rd., died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of Eva Geneva Cobb Phillips and the late Carl Clinton Phillips. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School, employed by Cherokee Finishing and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his mother, Eva Geneva Cobb Phillips, of the home and two brothers, Ronnie Phillips of Easley and Dennis Phillips of Gaffney.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Cox. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the residence.

Miaja Wood
Services for Miaja Chardeane’ Wood of 407 Willow St., 2-month-old daughter of Kristy Wood of the home and Charles Savage of Gaffney, will be held. Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church conducted by Dr. U.D. Vernon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family is at the home of her father, Charles Savage, 701 Littlejohn St.
