Mary Kate Miller
Former IRS account manager
SHELBY – Mary Kate Ramsey Miller, 92, of 415 W. College Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in Crawley Memorial Hospital.
Born in Asheville, N.C., she was the widow of Sidney Wall Miller and daughter of the late Charles and Willie Jane Huff Ramsey. She was a former account manager for the Internal Revenue Service and was a member of Berry Memorial Baptist Church in Gaffney.
Surviving are a son, the Rev. S. Michael Miller and his wife, Sandra, of Shelby.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lewis Memorial Park in Asheville conducted by the Rev. Michael Miller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berry Memorial Baptist Church, 2760 Union Hwy., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Robena P. Phillips
Cherokee County native
Robena Oglesby Poole Phillips, 82, of 810 W. Fairview Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Cherokee County, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Nathaniel Oglesby and the late Ora Fernanders Oglesby.
She was first married to Willie Poole Sr. and after his death, she later married Ezra Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and member of the Vinnie Byers Missionary Circle.
In addition to her spouses, she was preceded in death by two sons, Willie Poole Jr. and John Poole Sr., and a granddaughter, she raised, Sandy Poole Gregory.
Surviving are a daughter, Linnie Poole Evans of Gaffney; two sons, Charles Edward Poole and Rev. Richard H. Poole, both of Atlanta, Ga.; step-children, Barbara Corry, James and William Phillips, all of Gaffney; 22 grandchildren, including Vicky Davis and Joshua Gregory, raised in the home; 31 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sarah Edwards and Bobbie Tate, both of Gaffney.
Services will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church conducted by Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. Burial will be in Gaffney Memorial Park. The body will be in the church Saturday at 3 p.m.

Stephen J. Danek Jr.
Retired foundry worker
Stephen Jay Danek Jr., 84, of Peachtree Centre, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Dunellen, N.J., he was the husband of Eleanor Proksch Danek and son of the late Stephen Jay Danek Sr. and the late Maria Blysak Danek. He was a retired foundry worker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gaffney.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Patricia Fowler of Gaffney and JoAnne Kane of North Plainfield, N.J.; a sister, Mary Martovich of Hartford, Conn.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church conducted by Father Ray Carlo. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Plainfield, N.J.
The family is at 116 Salem Rd.
Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 403 Vernon St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.
