Chad Case
Grandfather of Gaffney resident
CANTON, N.C. – Chad Case, 87, formerly of 612 Morning Star Rd., died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at the home of his daughter.
Mr. Case was the last of 12 children born to the late Richard and Bonnie Mae Joyce Case. He retired from Champion International as a shipping clerk with 34 years of service and was a member and deacon of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to dig ginseng. He was a United States Army veteran, serving from 1936 until 1939.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Corn Case; three daughters, Joyce Case Broyles Long and her husband, Paul, Wanda Case Cole and her husband, Dee, all of Canton, and Dianne Case Lawrence and her husband, Roger, of Greenwood; two sons, Larry Case and his wife, Julie, of Canton, and Ronald Case and his wife, Sandy, of Horse Shoe, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and locally one granddaughter, Cynthia Bromley Clary.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Revs. Roy Houston and Ed Lowder officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
The family is at the home of his daughter at 3996 Newfound Rd., Canton, N.C. 28716.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Haywood County, Home Health Bldg., 560 Leroy George Dr., Clyde, N.C. 28721.

Ruth J. Crawford
Retired from textiles
Ruth Jeanette Crawford, 84, of 186 People’s Creek Rd., died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at her home.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Joseph L. Crawford and daughter of the late Stead and Fannie Suttle Moss. She was a member of Gaffney Wesleyan Church and was retired from the textile industry.
Surviving are a son, Michael Crawford of Gaffney; a brother, Zeb Moss of Piedmont; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Draytonville Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Stepp officiating.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Moss, Eddie Clary, Lynn Clary, Rocky Clary, Samuel Harvey and Chris Turner.
The family will receive friends at the White Columns Funeral Service from 1-1:45 p.m. Saturday and other times will be at the home.

Maggie W. Robbs
Services for Maggie Elizabeth Williams Robbs, 65, of 1303 Old Georgia Hwy., widow of Thomas “Tab” Robbs, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. Eula Miller Jr. and the Revs. Clarence Davis and Freddie Davidson officiating. Burial will be in Gaffney Memorial Park. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be John White, Robert Dukes, Lee Madison Watts, Cornell Dawkins, Willie Logan and Rick Good.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the church’s trustee and deacon boards.
Flower bearers will be Nellie Sims, Trudy Dawkins, Ruth Tate, Christine Boyd, Lula Watts, Inez McCluney, Georgia Dukes and Annette White.
Honorary flower bearers will be the Usher Board and Nurses Guild of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7-8 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home.
Annie C. Camp
Services for Annie Cory Camp, 60, wife of Deacon Willie Camp Sr., of 117 New St., will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Dr. Eula Miller Jr. and the Revs. Freddie Davidson, Thomas Burson and Lawrence Davidson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church Saturday at noon.
Pallbearers will be the deacons of Ebenezer Baptist Church and honorary pallbearers will be Richard Ross, Ulisher Fincher and V.C. Hemphill.
Flower bearers will be the deaconesses of Ebenezer Baptist Church and honorary flower bearers will be Mary Phillips, Gwendolyn Fincher and Gwendolyn Hemphill.

Rev. Ben Robert Stewart
Gaffney native
The Rev. Ben Robert Stewart, 61, of 3901 Market St., Philadelphia, Pa., husband of Hattie Stewart, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at 1:30 a.m. at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Deacon Fincher Stewart and the late Lillie N. Corry Stewart.
He is survived by his wife, Hattie Stewart of the home; four sons, Ben Robert Stewart Jr. and Sesley Stewart of Reading, Pa., Ben Robert Stewart III of Philadelphia, Pa., and Randall Phillips of Gaffney; three daughters, Patricia S. Devoe of Reading, Pa., Dionne S. Edwards of Philadelphia and Barbara R. Greene of Blandon Pa.; four brothers, Fincher Stewart Jr. of Greenville, George Stewart of Charlotte, David Stewart of Baltimore, Md., and Larry Dover of Gaffney; five sisters, Dorothy Stewart, Shirley Deer, Lottie Belle Johnson, Carolyn Fee and Peggy Stewart of Charlotte.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Chapel Fire Baptize Holiness Church with the Rev. Dr. E.D. Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Gowdeysville Baptist Church Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The family is at the home of his son, Robert Phillips, Apt. No. 49, Beltline Apartments, Gaffney.

Sherman Watkins
Retired from Union Butterfield
Sherman Watkins, 56, of 66 Sallie Dr., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2001, at 6:30 a.m. at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late John Smith Watkins and the late Vergia Gaffney Watkins. He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church where he was a member of the All Male Chorus and a secretary. He graduated in 1963 from Granard High School and was retired from Union Butterfield Corp.
Surviving are a son, Sherman Watkins Jr. of Gaffney; a daughter, Tanya Roxann Roberts of Gaffney; two brothers, Joe Watkins and Frank Watkins of Gaffney; a sister, Jeanette Williams of Gaffney; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with Dr. U.D. Vernon and the Revs. Willie Mayes, David Vernon, L.C. Roberts and John Henderson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be members of Granard High School, Class 1963, Charles Tate, Thomas Reid, Warren Dukes, Jesse Norris, Wesley Edwards and Ulysses “Pic” Dawkins. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mount Sinai Baptist Church All Male Chorus.
Flower bearers will be members of Granard High School, Class 1963.
