Jacqueline E. Smith
Native of Newfoundland, Canada
Jacqueline Emma Smith, 40, of 145 Triangle Rd., died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, she was the wife of Les K. Smith of the home.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Shirley M. Couch of Gaffney; stepfathers, Tony Couch of Gaffney and Wade T. Reeves of Riverside, Calif.; sons, Larry Wayne Keasler of Travelers Rest and Christopher Lee Cantrell of Gaffney; daughter, Melissa Joyce Smith of Gaffney; brother, Randal Scott Reeves of Gaffney; sisters, Cathy Marlane Patterson of Goldsboro, N.C., Kimberely Ann Brown of Winston-Salem, N.C., Connie Lee Tanedo of Virginia Beach, Va., and Tonya Michelle Couch of Gaffney; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pollett of Newfoundland, Canada.
The family will receive friends at the Couch home, 204 Brookwood Dr. Funeral services will be private.

Moretta C. McMurray
Employed by Riddle Fabrics
BLACKSBURG – Moretta Costner McMurray, 47, of 664 Mullinax Circle, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at her home.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Wayne McMurray and daughter of Irene Blanton Costner of Blacksburg and the late Robert Mason Costner. She was a cloth inspector at Riddle Fabrics in Kings Mountain, N.C., and was of the Church of God faith.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two brothers, Robert Costner of Clover and Willie Costner of Blacksburg, and a sister, Pebble Moore of Blacksburg.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel conducted by the Revs. James Snipes and Linda Stacy. Burial will be in Kings Creek Church of God Cemetery.
The family is at 1010 York Rd., Blacksburg.

Lois H. Cody
Services for Lois Jeanette Hodge Cody, 82, of 519 Hamrick St., will be held today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel conducted by the Revs. James L. Garner and Mike Proctor. Burial will be private.
Pallbearers will be Frank Steele, Dean Allison, Kirk Reeves, Cody Cooper, Ted Cody, Richard Clary, Ronnie Scruggs and Tallant Smith.
The family is at the residence.

Lily S. Melton
Retired textile employee
Lily Corinne Sprouse Melton, 86, formerly of 808 Beech St., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in N.H.C. Healthcare, Greer.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Donald N. Melton and daughter of the late Calvin Sprouse and the late Anna Wyatt Sprouse. She was a retired textile employee and school crossing guard and a member of Beech Street Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a son, Steve Melton of Gaffney; a daughter, Gwen Hughey, and son-in-law, Ron Hughey, of Taylors; a brother, Fred Sprouse of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Traci Hughey of Bristol, R.I., Kelley H. Self of Simpsonville and Todd Melton.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Melton.
Arrangements are incomplete. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge.

Violet P. Allman
Retired from Limestone Summit Plant
Violet Mae Patterson Pritchard Allman, 74, of 407 Brook Dr., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Claude “Boss” Patterson and the late Margaret Bright Patterson. She was retired from Limestone Summit Plant.
Surviving are two sons, Lawrence Pritchard and Oscar Pritchard, both of Gaffney; two daughters, Virginia Campbell and Judith Hill, both of Gaffney; a brother, L.D. Patterson of Gaffney; two sisters, Essie Haynes and Ruth Dover, both of Gaffney; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are incomplete. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge.
Richard R. “Bub” Adams
Services for Richard R. “Bub” Adams, 86, of 420 Marion Ave., widower of Ozetta Rice Adams and Ailean Littlejohn Adams, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny L. Burnside and James E. Foster and Dr. Eula Miller Jr. officiating. Masonic interment will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be members of Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 117 and flower bearers will be Mr. Adams’ nieces.
Scottish Rites Consistory Ceremony and receiving of friends will be held tonight from 7-8 at Foster Funeral Home.

Vera B. Smiley
Cryptside services for Vera Blanton Smiley, 90, of Peachtree Centre, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Scott Davis.
The family is at the home of Mary Campbell, 944 Overbrook Dr.

Florence Lee Logan
Services for Florence Lee Logan, 63, of 205 W. Rutledge Ave., will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home with the Revs. Mary D. Jefferies, Heyward Boyd, Lawrence Davidson and C.W. Locke officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Fritz Corry, Charles Hollis, Ray Brown, Derrick Logan, Ivan Lewis and John Smith.
Flower bearers will be Wanda Camp, Wilma Dawkins, Emily Edrington, Jo Ann Adams, Robin Woods and Angie Davidson.
