Sallie T. Wilkins
Owner/operator of Wilkins Insurance
BLACKSBURG – Sallie T. Wilkins, 72, of 128 Temple Lane, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the wife of George Harry Wilkins and daughter of Ruth Green Turner of Kings Mountain, N.C., and the late Paul Turner. She was owner and operator of Wilkins Insurance Company and was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are four sons, George Wilkins Jr., Bruce Wilkins, both of Blacksburg, Stephen R. Wilkins of Easley and Dr. Philip Wilkins of Winnsboro; a daughter, Sallie Hambright of Burlington, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, the Rev. Joe Turner of Gaffney and Jim Turner of Blacksburg; and four sisters, Frances Gallman of Pensacola, Fla., Madie Haynes of Charlotte, Rachel Brezeale of Simpsonville and Carol Martin of Blacksburg.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Buford Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Scott Wachter, Dewey Dean and Vernon Craig. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Hambright, Phillip Charles Wilkins Jr., Mark Wilkins, Drew Hambright, Paul Wilkins, Joel Bruce Wilkins Jr., Peter Wilkins and Harrison Wilkins.
The family is at the residence.

Reginald Gibbs
Services for Reginald “Reggie” Gibbs, 35, of 1013 Second Ave., will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, conducted by Drs. J.W. Sanders Sr., James W. Sanders Jr. and the Revs. Mary D. Jefferies, Lewis Davis and Kenneth Merriman. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery. Body in the church at 2 p.m.

Lewis D. Melton
Retired from Oxford
HICKORY GROVE – Lewis D. Melton, 67, of 6057 Hwy. 97, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Alice Sexton Melton and son of the late Carl and Vissie Melton. He was a retired transportation supervisor with Oxford.
Also surviving are two sons, Johnny Melton of Gaffney and Steven Melton of Hickory Grove; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Melton was preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah Irvin.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30-8 at White Columns-Gaffney and at other times they will be at the residence.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Ray Long and Bill Miller.

Eva S. Stroud
Former nurse’s aid
Eva Scronce Stroud, 80, of Cardinal Health Care and formerly of Maiden, N.C., died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in Lincoln Medical Center.
Mrs. Stroud was born Aug. 7, 1921, in Catawba County. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lavonia Ledford Scronce and her husband, Glayton Jennings Stroud. She graduated from Startown High School and practiced as a nurse’s aid and private attendant in the medical field.
Surviving are four sons, Reginald Allen Stroud of Denver, N.C., Harold Eugene Stroud and Timothy Wayne Stroud of Lincolnton, N.C., Charles Glayton Stroud of Gaffney; a daughter, Gaye S. Caudle of Lincolnton; a brother, John Perry Scronce Jr. of Maiden; a sister, Mattie Smith of Charlotte; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Darryl E. Kensinger and Wayne Haynes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home and at other times will be at the home of a son, Harold Stroud, 1592 Sandy Park Rd., Lincolnton.

Buck F. Brown
Retired from Gaffney Mfg.
Buck Franklin Brown, 75, of 2588 Old Georgia Hwy., died Thursday, June 6, 2002, in Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Aileen Parris Brown and son of the late Charlie Brown and the late Belle Coyle Brown. He was retired from Gaffney Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church where he was a former deacon.
Also surviving are two sons, Johnny Mack Brown and Jerry Lee Brown, both of Gaffney; a brother, Willie Brown of Gaffney; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a grandson, Christopher Lynn Brown.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. John Goforth and Jimmy Powell. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Ray Brown, Terry Lee Brown, Gerry Lee Brown, Frankie Lee Brown, Clay Cole, Benjamin Parris, Randy Brown and Ronald Brown.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times will be at the residence.

Zemrude L. Vinesett
Retired textile employee
COWPENS – Zemrude Lanier Vinesett, 92, of 405 S. Green River Rd., formerly of 1406 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Kyle D. Vinesett and daughter of the late Dube Lanier and the late Sally Coyle Lanier. She was a retired textile employee and member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia A. Whelchel of Cowpens and Sue Childers of West Columbia; two sons, Bobby E. Vinesett of Chester, Va., and Jim Vinesett of Gaffney; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas and the Revs. Stuart Kersey and Sidney Norton. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Darryl Vinesett, Scott Vinesett, Shannon Vinesett, Joshua Vinesett, Bryan Childers, Terry Boyer, Jack Owensby and Jerry Gaffney.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times will be at 405 S. Green River Rd., Cowpens.
