Bobby Joe Callahan
U.S. Air Force veteran
BLACKSBURG – Bobby Joe Callahan, 70, of 1105 Rock Springs Rd., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby.
Born in Gaffney, he was the widower of Gerd (Sue) Evelyn Richter Callahan and son of the late Ralph Callahan and the late Vera Wylie Callahan. He was a retired textile employee, a U.S. Air Force veteran and a member of the National Guard.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth Callahan of Gaffney; a daughter, Sherri Estes of Blacksburg; three sisters, Elaine Moss of Blacksburg, Carolyn Kuykendall of Kings Mountain and Patricia McCulloch of Boiling Springs, N.C.; a brother, Franklin Callahan of Kings Mountain; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Callahan was preceded in death by a bother, Thomas Callahan.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Perrin Parker. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Manley, Troy Barker, Mike Callahan, Timmy Anthony, Brian Upchurch, Frank Callahan, David Norman and Terry Mullinax.
The family is at the home of his daughter, Sherrie Estes, 1041 Rock Springs Rd., Blacksburg.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, S.C. 29605.

Delma W. Gordon
Former co-owner of Gordon Mortuary
BLACKSBURG – Delma Whelchel Gordon, 87, of 1921 W. Cherokee St., died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, at Peachtree Centre.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of William (Bill) Martin Gordon and daughter of the late Ebin B. Whelchel and the late Nannie Spencer Whelchel. She was a member of Blacksburg First Baptist Church and was former co-owner of Gordon Mortuary with her husband in 1948. She was a member of the Blacksburg Senior Citizens.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Glisson of Greensboro, N.C., and Louise Vassy of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Meg Solid of Raleigh, N.C., Eric Vassy of Gaffney and Brad Glisson of Greensboro; a great-grandson, Ryan Solid of Raleigh, N.C.; and three sisters, Margaret Turner of Gaffney, Ruby Turner of York and Katherine White of Spartanburg.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Ken Reid and Ronnie Cox. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens. Body will be place in the church at 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be William Cobb, Kelee Cobb, Gary Sarratt, Gary Moss, Ted Bechtler, Tony Willis, Eddie Bridges, Nick Wells and Tom Easler.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at Gordon Mortuary and at other times will be at the residence, 1921 W. Cherokee St.
