Mary M. Sutton
Retired secretary
Mary Ellen McCraw Sutton, 93, of 814 S. Petty St., died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Peachtree Centre.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Eugene H. Sutton and daughter of the late J. Virgil McCraw and the late Mary Elizabeth Swofford McCraw. She was a retired secretary from C&S Bank (Bank of America) and was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney where she participated in the Young at Heart group. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Surviving are 10 nieces and six nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Joel Sellers.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bennett, Dilbert Humphries, Joel Hill, Jim Brown, Chuck Lowery, Richard Lavender and Hal Childers.
Family members are at their respective homes where they will receive friends any time.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or Grassy Pond Baptist Church Family Life Center, 254 Grassy Pond Rd., Gaffney, S.C. 29341.

Abner W. Waters
Retired service station owner and operator
Abner Watson Waters, 90, of 1579 Overbrook Dr., died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Aline Baker Waters and son of the late Joe Wofford Waters and the late Emily Ida Owens Waters. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and a retired service station owner and operator. He was a member of the American Legion, Sons of Confederate veterans and Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Joe W. Waters and Phillip V. Waters, both of Gaffney; a sister, Katherine Poole of Gainesville, Ga.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Danny Emory. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Terrance Aaltoner, Ernest Lindsay, Tim Darwin, Horace Whelchel, Paul Patterson and John Swofford.
The family is at the residence.

Maybelle C. Wallace
Services for Maybelle Callaham Wallace, 94, of 808 Springs St., will be held today at noon at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Arthur J. Smith, Eugene Crockett, Roderick Oglesby and F.J. Means officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m.

Sudie H. Crocker
Retired from Cone Mills
Sudie Hamrick Crocker, 98, of Cliffside, N.C., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, in Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, N.C., she was the widow of Archie E. Crocker Sr. and daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Green Hamrick. She was retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Archie E. Crocker Jr. of Charlotte; four daughters, Donnis C. Jarrell of Boiling Springs, N.C., Nellie C. Crook of Blacksburg, Shirley C. Frye of Cliffside and Eunice Ann C. Melton of Shelby; a sister, Selma H. Harris of Mooresboro; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cliffside Baptist Church with the Revs. William Stroud and Charlie Blackwell officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be tonight from 6:30-8:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside.

Larry G. Higgins
Textile employee
Larry Gene Higgins, 43, of 305 Jackson St., died Thursday, March 21, 2002, at his home.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of Pearl Evelyn Horne Higgins of the home and the late Arthur Murlin Higgins. He was a textile employee and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two brothers, Ricky Murlin Higgins of the home and Dean Higgins of Gaffney; and three sisters, Karen Williams of Blacksburg, Meriam Williams of Gaffney and Doris Hunt of Columbia.
The family is at 246 Patrick Rd., Gaffney.
Arrangements are incomplete. Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home is in charge.

Hood Watterson
Retired plumber
BLACKSBURG – Hood Watterson, 86, of 146 Watterson Rd., died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, in Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby.
A native of Cleveland County, N.C., he was the son of the late J.D. and Bessie Grigg Watterson. He retired as owner and operator of Watterson Plumbing and was a member of First Baptist Church of Grover and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Norman Watterson of Blacksburg; sons, Robert Gene Watterson of Akron, Ohio, and Richard Norman Watterson of Shelby; a daughter, Norma Kay Bowen of Blacksburg; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Grover with Dr. Tony Fulbright officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain.
