Virginia Barrett
Gaffney native
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. – Virginia (Boot) Barrett, 72, a homemaker, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at Island Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Virginia was born in Gaffney, S.C. She came to Brevard County in 1964 from South Carolina. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cocoa.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 55 years, B.C. Barrett; 3 sons, Mike Barrett of Port St. John, Steve Barrett of Woodbridge, Va., and Eddie Joe Barrett of Rockledge; a daughter, Angie Grantman of Overland Park, Kan.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two aunts, Lizzie Harvey of Gaffney, S.C., and Sarah Crocker of Easley, S.C.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Friday, April 12, at First Baptist Church of Cocoa, 750 Brevard Ave. Private family burial will follow the service.

Henry T. Wright
Retired from Cherokee Finishing Company
Henry Thomas Wright, 79, of 800 Lyman St., died Thursday, April 11, 2002, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Bradenboro, N.C., he was the husband of Agnes Wilson Wright and son of the late John Bruton Wright and the late Elizabeth Williamson Wright. He was retired from Cherokee Finishing Company and was of the Baptist faith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Also surviving are a son, John Wright of Gaffney; six daughters, Marsha Kirkman, Mary (Bub) Brown, Patricia Carroll, Lorna Dorman, all of Gaffney, Elaine Trexler of Spartanburg and Lynn Rich of Greensboro, N.C.; a brother, Mennon Wright of Bradenboro; a sister, Joyce Shaw of Fayetteville, N.C.; 26 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family is at the residence.

David S. Corry
Retired from Cherokee Finishing Company
David Stanhope Corry, 82, of 320 Vernon St., died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Peachtree Centre.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Frances Elmore Corry of the home and son of the late Nott Corry and the late Rachel Blanton Corry. He was retired from Cherokee Finishing Company and was a graduate of Spartanburg Methodist College.
Mr. Corry was a member of Limestone Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Also surviving are a son, Mark Corry of the home; a daughter, Melba C. Brawley of Garland, Texas; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Youngblood. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Thompson, John Gray, Joe Bonner, Bob Carroll and Harry Lovelace.
The family will receive friends anytime at the residence, 320 Vernon St.
Memorials may be made to Limestone Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Jefferies St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or to Senior Center of Gaffney, 499 W. Rutledge Ave., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Sarah P. Banks
Services for Sarah Aulene Price Banks, 88, of 102 Swindon Circle, Greenville, formerly of 1215 S. Johnson St., Gaffney were held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by Dr. Bobby Morrow. Burial was in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Pollock, Kenneth Townsend, Gene Pinson, Irby Shealy and Sam Price.
The family is at 102 Swindon Circle, Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Johnnie D. Ross Sr.
Father of Gaffney residents
Johnnie Dean Ross Sr., 55, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Ross was the son of the late Lounnette Ross and the late Lusk Lockheart. He was reared by his late aunt, Dorotha Jones.
Surviving are his wife, Earlene Ross of the home; two daughters, Andrenna Montgomery of Gaffney and Angela Brooks of Philadelphia, Pa.; a son, Johnnie D. Ross Jr. of Gaffney; two adopted children of the home, Quenten Galloway and Cammilla Galloway; reared as sisters and brothers, Rosemary Marlowe, Joyce Jones, Marylyn Jones, Kim Jones, and Darell Jones; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Monday, April 8, 2002, at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.

Roy Hovis
Retired attorney
Roy Hovis, 85, of the V.A. Medical Center, Decatur, Ga., died at the Medical Center on Thursday, April 11, 2002.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of Early Hampton and Ola Horne Hampton. He was a retired attorney and member of the Georgia State Bar for 50 years.
Surviving are a sister, Maude Smith of Gastonia.

Ashley Ann Jefferies
GHS Student
Ashley Ann Jefferies, 17, of 105 Bunche St. in Gaffney, died at 1:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8, 2002 at 206 Gaffney Ave.
Daughter of Kenneth Lipscomb of Gaffney and Leslie P. Jefferies Hollis of the home, she was a native of Gaffney. She was an eleventh grade student at Gaffney High School. She attended New Mount Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Marian Jefferies of the home; a step-father, Robert Hollis Sr. of Gaffney; three brothers, Demarcus Jefferies, Lamond Dewberry and Robert Hollis of Gaffney; five sisters, Kenshel Lipscomb, Dreanna Lipscomb, Kimberly Hollis, Makayla Reid and Electria R. Gist of Gaffney; grandparents, Floree Tate, Ben Tate Sr., Annie Ruth Lipscomb and Clyde Lipscomb of Gaffney; great-grandparents, Evelyn Goudelock and David Goudelock and Stella Mae Tate of Gaffney.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Burnside, Tracy Miller, John E. Wilkins and Stanley Watson officiating.
Body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Flower bearers will be: Cluffy Dawkins, Irene Phillips, Olivia Tate, Ancnellica Tate, Lucy Littlejohn, Ontia Weeks, Cherry Posey, Andrea Lyles, Indua Lipscomb, Vernelle Williams, Ashley Proctor, Shardae Bonner and Rondellia Hollis.
Pallbearers will be: Ronnie Tate, Donnie Tate, Reggie Ross, T.L. Ford, Joacobi Giste, Jarvis Littlejohn, Jarvis Galmon, Alex Davidson, Timothy Galmon and Johnathan Futrell.
Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Goudelock Allen
Gaffney native
Grace Goudelock Allen, 75, of 1008 Savannah St., S.E., Washington, D.C., died Tuesday, April 9, 2002 at her residence.
A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of Johnny Allen and daughter of the late David Goudelock and the late Lessie Goudelock. She was a member of Limestone Baptist Church. On July 28, 1997, she was baptized into the Jehovah Witness Faith.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four daughters, Lola Green of Rockford, Ill., Grace Gordon of Upper Marlboro, Md., Carolyn Durafoy of Clinton, Md. and Mattie A. Banks of Gaffney; two sons, Johnny Dean Allen of Gaffney and Donald Allen of Oxon Hill, Md.; two sisters, Annie Forrest of Greenville and Lucille Black of Tulsa, Okla; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Oxon Hill, Md.
The family will receive friends at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Saturday, April 13 at 9 a.m., 4700 Wheeler Rd.
Interment will follow the funeral services in Fort Lincoln Cemetery at Oxon Hill, Md.
Marshall Funeral Home of 4308 Suitland Rd., Suitland, Md. is in charge of arrangements.

Maggie Roberts
Gaffney native
Maggie Roberts, 69, of Lexington, S.C., died Monday, April 8, 2002 at her residence.
A native of Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Roberts Garrison. She was a graduate of Granard High School. At an early age, she joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
She was a retired veterinarian’s assistant at Philadelphia, Pa. after 25 years of service.
Funeral services will be held in Gaffney. The date will be announced later.
Foster Funeral Home of Gaffney and Leevy Funeral Home of Columbia are in charge of arrangements.
