David E. Goode
GHS graduate
David Edward Goode, 22, of 1615 Cherokee Ave., died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of Shelby Jean Hayes Horvath of the home and the late George Goode. He attended Temple Baptist Church and was a graduate of Gaffney High School.
Surviving in addition to his mother are maternal grandmother, Mary Kennedy of Gaffney; six brothers, Michael Cudd, Matthew Goode, both of Pacolet, George Goode Jr., Bobby Goode, both of the home, John Cudd of Gaffney and Scott Cudd; two sisters, Melissa Goode and Tammy Parker, both of Gaffney; and paternal grandmother, Mary Goode of Liberty.
Services were Friday at 1 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Johnny Bridges and Wayne Arrowood. Burial was in Goucher Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Buddy Knighton, Jerry Martin, Chris Martin, Jim Wilson, Broadus Thompson and Chad Fowler.
The family is at the residence.

LaQuata M. Houey
Gaffney native
LaQuata Martika Houey, 12, of 11 Stedlyn Circle, Hampton, Va., died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, in Virginia.
Born in Gaffney, she was a daughter of Aretha Baker Frierson and Charles Frierson of the home.
Surviving are two sisters, Na-Tasha Houey and Andrell Frierson, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Earnestine and Ernest Baker of Gaffney; paternal grandparents, Sandra and Enrique Williams of Hampton, Va.; maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Littlejohn of Gaffney; paternal great-grandparents, Elder R.L. Brewton and Elder Dorothy Brewton of Gaffney.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Baker, 128 Camellia Circle.
The Gilmore Mortuary is in charge of services.

Genelle Y. Price
Retired from Cone Mills
COWPENS – Genelle Yelton Price, 78, of 720 Iron Bridge Rd., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of Howard Price of the home and daughter of the late Edgar Yelton and Zadie Padgett Yelton. She was a member of New Pleasant Baptist Church and the Joy Seekers Sunday School Class. She was retired from Cone Mill of Cliffside as a payroll accountant.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. New Pleasant Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. George Holland. Burial will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Eggers Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.

Joe S. Alexander
Professor of horticulture at University of Tennessee
Joe Stribling Alexander, 85, of 122 Saxon Dr., died Saturday, July 27, 2002, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
A native of Seneca, he was the husband of Mary Sheldon Alexander and son of the late Joseph Frederick Alexander and the late Stokes Barron Alexander. He was professor of horticulture at the University of Tennessee and a member of Overbrook Community Church in Gaffney. He lived in Knoxville, Tenn., for most of his life and moved to Gaffney in December, 1996.
Mr. Alexander was active in Alpha Zeta Fraternity and was a member of the American Horticulturist Society. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 82nd Division and European Theatre. He was recipient of a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Elizabeth Alexander Moorhead of Gaffney and Jody Alexander West of Athens, Tenn.; a son-in-law, Michael Wayne West of Athens, Tenn.; grandchildren, Robyn Carlisle Binger of Statesville, N.C., Tate Alexander Nicolini of Duncan and Meghan Elizabeth West of Athens, Tenn.; the great-grandchildren, Matthew Nicolini and Jacob Nicolini of Duncan; and two brothers, William Alexander of Hendersonville, N.C., and Stokes Alexander of Easley.
A memorial service will be held today at 11 a.m. at Overbrook Community Church, conducted by the Rev. Herb Bailey. Private burial will follow at Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home of Elizabeth Moorhead, 124 Saxon Dr.

Services for Carolyn Tettie Austin, 52, of 107 Lincoln St., wife of Edgar Columbus Austin, will be held today at 3 p.m. at Indian Hill Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Mary D. Jefferies and Kerwin Wray. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Garrett, Daryl Garrison, Willie Hollis, Craig Littlejohn, Richard Littlejohn, Telly Littlejohn, Frank Ross and Ben Tate Jr.
Flower bearers will be Carolyn Burris, Teresa Garret, Yvone Hollis, Oletha Linder, Darlene Sarratt, Sugarmine Sarratt and Tab Tate.

Boyce L. Kelly Jr.
PACOLET – Services for Boyce Lee Kelly Jr., 58, of 761 Jerusalem Rd., will be held today at 3 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Roger Mason, T.J. Jackson, Luther Means, Kevin Means Sr., Sherman Davis and Drs. Bobby D. Houze and J.W. Sanders Sr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Travis Burrell, Alonzo Farr, Thomas Gibbs, James F. Good, Sharon Goudelock Jr., Johnny Reid, Doug Shippy, Lloyd Tate and Cossie B. Knuckles.
Honorary pallbearers will be Vanderbilt Brown, Charlie Byrd, Earl Fontoon, Johnny Graham, James Thomas and members of the Granard High School Class of 1965.
Flower bearers will be Nellie Ree Brown, Corrie Gist, Ruby Gist, Hattie Ruth Good, Patricia Good, Mary Jo Middleton and Sarah Tate.
Honorary flower bearers will be members of the Granard High School Class of 1965.
