Helen L. Thacker
Native of Ohio
SMYRNA – Helen Louise Thacker, 73, of 1358 McGill Hwy., died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at her residence after an extended illness.
A native of Lawrence County, Ohio, she was the wife of Louis Thacker Sr. of the home and daughter of the late Lloyd and Grace Wilson Bradley.
Also surviving are a son, Louis E. Thacker Jr. of Huntsville, Ala.; six daughters, Hattie J. Judd of York, Patricia Poole of Waycross, Ga., Peggy Adkins, Betty Adkins, Edna Eplion, all of Proctorville, Ohio, and June Lana Foster of South Point, Ohio; 27 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Lloyd Bradley, Terry Michael Bradley, both of Proctorville, Ohio, Bob Bradley, Garland Bradley, both of Crete, Ill., David Bradley of Huntington ,W.Va., Jimmy Bradley of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Bud (Willis) Bradley of Hawthorne, Calif.; five sisters, Letha Taylor of Lakeview, Ill., Ruth Frye of Dayton, Ohio, Ruby Lowe of Chesapeake, Ohio, Christine Hill of Crete, Ill., and Wilma Jean Cates of Lewisville, Ind.
Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery, Smyrna, with Mack Wyatt officiating.

Lucille H. Allison
Gaffney native
UNION – Lucille Hyder Allison, 90, a former resident of Union and widow of Dever Allison, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at 9:17 a.m. in Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney after an extended illness.
Mrs. Allison was born in Gaffney on July 16, 1912, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Harmon. She was first married to the late Hayes H. Hyder. A member of Hebron Baptist Church in Union, she was the late surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are a daughter, Meta Hyder Harrison of Honea Path; three grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Allison was preceded in death by a son, Earl H. Hyder.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Hebron Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. David Toney, Jamie Ellis and Ralph Brown. Burial will be in the Hawkins Family Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
The family is at the home of her grandson, Steve Hyder, 749 Hawkins Rd., Union.

Catherine M. Broome
Retired seamstress
BLACKSBURG – Catherine Moss Broome, 79, of 1501 W. Cherokee St., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Alexandria Place in Gastonia, N.C.
Born in Gaffney, she was the widow of Howard F. Broome and daughter of the late William Moss and the late Betty Fant Moss. She was a retired seamstress from Oxford Industries and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Steve Broome of Blacksburg; two daughters, Brenda Dover of York and Kay Starrett of Cramerton, N.C.; a brother, Joe Moss of Whitmire; three sisters, Ella Sanders of Blacksburg, Coleen Byrumn of Aiken and Lona Fowler of Gaffney; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Mountainview Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Vernon Mullinax.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Steve Broome, 1501 W. Cherokee St., Blacksburg.

John A. Henry Sr.
Heavy equipment operator
John Alvin Henry Sr., 61, of 1541 Overbrook Dr., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Barbara Grant Henry and son of Mary Holland Harris of Cowpens and the late John Alvin Henry. He was a heavy equipment operator, a Mason, member of Lafayette Lodge No. 330 and a Shriner. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, John Alvin Henry Jr. of Gaffney; a granddaughter, Alexandra Nichole Barrett of Pauline; a sister, Syble Moore of Gaffney; four brothers, Danny Henry of Spartanburg, Gabriel Henry, James Henry, both of Gaffney, and Samuel Henry of Cowpens; two half-sisters, Gina Norris and Janet Reyes, both of Cowpens; and two half-brothers, Bobby Harris of Cowpens and Wayne Harris of Gaffney.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Midway Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Danny Emory and the Rev. Benny Davis. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Shane Parris, Chad Henry, Mike Henry, Kyle Henry, Jonathan Parris and Chris Parris.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.

Kolby M. Millwood
Kolby McLane Millwood, 5-week-old son of Billy and Jennifer Morris Millwood, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at home.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Kayla Millwood of the home; maternal grandparents, cynthia Thrift and Gene Morris of Gaffney; maternal great-grandparents, Hazel Culp, Ann Thrift and Margaret Morris, all of Gaffney.
Kolby was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Judy and Bill Millwood.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Skull Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Cable.
The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until 1:30 p.m. at White Columns-Gaffney and at other times they will be at the home.

Venelia E. Phillips
Homemaker
Venelia Elizabeth Phillips, 91, of Brookview HealthCare Center, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Brookview.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Columbus Phillips and the late Polly Bridges Phillips. She was a homemaker and member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Nettie Ethel Champion, Carolyn johnson, both of Gaffney, and Julia Collins of Charlotte; and a brother, Melroe Clayton Phillips of Michigan.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. Terry Duvall.
The family is at the home of Gail Phillips, 6230 Cannon Campground Rd., Gaffney.
