Laura M. Sarratt
Retired from Wal-Mart and Oxford Industries
Laura Minerva Sarratt, 90, of 653 Ellis Ferry Rd., died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late Noble Lucius Sarratt and the late Willie Missouri Jolley Sarratt. She retired from Wal-Mart after 20 years of service, working for the last few years as a greeter. She was also a retired supervisor at Oxford Industries and was a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Maggie R. Sarratt, of the home and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Miss Sarratt was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel S. Blanton, Jewel S. Sarratt and Minnie Ozelia Sarratt, and two brothers, Hillary Eugene Sarratt and Quenton Sarratt.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Roger Aycock. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers will be Sidney Lemmons, L.C. Sarratt, Tim Wyatt, W.H. McCraw Jr. and Osborne Lemmons.
The family is at the residence.

Geraldine J. Smith
Services for Geraldine J. Smith, 52, of 507 S. Oliver St., widow of John Marion Smith, will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church, conducted by the Revs. Heyward Boyd Sr., J.C. O’Neal, Roderick Oglesby and Minister Vincent Logan. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church Friday at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Daniels, Frankie Webster, Corey robinson, Darryle Douglas, Clinton Rodgers and Jacquin Jefferies.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas Mayberry, George Logan, Jake Jefferies, Donald Banks and Steve Littlejohn.
Flower bearers will be LaShawn Boyd, Carla Tanner, Minnie Ellis, Annie Crosby, Mino Smith, Virginia Brown, Mary Tate, Andrienne Jefferies, Leslie Rainey, Pam Henderson and Ashley Stevenson.
The family is at the home of Russell Smith Sr., 111 Carter Heights Dr., Gaffney.

Malvin D. Spencer
Malvin Davis Spencer, formerly of 616 W. Smith St., died today, April 16, 2003, at Peachtree Centre.
Arrangements are incomplete. White Columns Funeral Service is in charge.

Dewey Martin
World War II veteran
CHESNEE – Robert Dewey Martin, 83, of 8060 Parris Bridge Rd., died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at his residence.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the husband of Mary Frances Wilson Martin of the home and son of the late Von Derald Martin and Nettie Mae Ridings Martin. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a farmer and also owner of Dewey Martin’s Tire Service in Chesnee for 12 years. He was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and American Legion Post No. 48.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sandra Harris of Chesnee and Nancy Clary of Gaffney; three sons, Ralph Dean Wilson and Johnny burke, both of Chesnee, and Mike Burke of Spartanburg; four sisters, Lois Thomas of Spartanburg, Ruby Whitlock and Tina Sawyer, both of Campobello, and Judy Price of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, J.D. Martin and Jerry Martin, both of California; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Fae Walker, Eddie Cooper and Tommy Bailey. Burial will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the residence.

Justice B. Jackson
Justice Blake Jackson, 4, of 313 Green River Rd., died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of Mitchel (Mitch) Wayne Jackson and Christina (Crissy) Guy Jackson. He was a member of Restoration Church.
Also surviving are two brothers, Jerred Jackson and Isaac Jackson of the home; paternal grandparents, Mitchel and Gloria Jackson of Gaffney; paternal great-grandmother, Jackie Allison of St. Simon Island, Ga.; paternal great-grandparents, James and Marie Parker of Gaffney; maternal grandfather, Kevin Guy of Shelby; maternal grandmother, Cathy Franklin of Gaffney; maternal step-grandfather, Don Franklin of Gaffney; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Guy of Gaffney; and maternal great-grandparents, Floyd and Lillian Gordon of Gaffney.
He was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandfather, Ted Guy.
The family is at the home of Floyd and Lillian Gordon, 324 Macedonia Rd.
