Mamie R. Wood
Cherokee County native
Mamie Rene Wood of 900 S. Johnson St., widow of William Scott Hopper Sr. and Eugene Wood, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at 4:20 a.m. at her residence.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Bratton Burris and the late Selena Johnson Burris. She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Emma M. Rosser of Gaffney and Nellie Young of the home; two sons, Randolph Hopper and Harry Guest Jr. of Gaffney; a stepson, Willie Wood of Gaffney; Juanita Cook who was reared in the home as a daughter; a sister, Sarah Burris of Gaffney; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. U.D. Vernon, Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., Dr. L.T. Tate, the Rev. Robert L. Dover and the Rev. Floree Copeland. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be the deacons and trustees of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and flower bearers will be members of the church’s Vernon Choir.

Ola H. McCraw
Homemaker
Ola Henderson McCraw, 82, of 510 Thompson St., died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Brookview HealthCare center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Dora Reynolds Pierce and widow of Floyd Edward Henderson and Yates McCraw. A homemaker, she was a member of East Gaffney Church of God.
Surviving are a son, Wayne Henderson of Gaffney; a daughter, Barbara Jean White of Blacksburg; brothers, Horace Pierce, Walter Pierce, Charlie Pierce, John Pierce, Floyd Pierce, Paul Pierce, Marshall Pierce, Olden Pierce and Diolia Pierce; three sisters, Mary Grant of Maryland, Mealzie Smith of Gaffney and Evelyn Wilcox of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Joe Henderson and LeRoy Henderson.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Melvin Taylor.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at White Columns-Gaffney and at other times they will be at 237 Ross St., Gaffney.

Charles S. Watts
1991 GHS graduate
Charles Sullivan Watts, 30, of 111 Poplar Springs Dr., died Monday, May 10, 2003, on his birthday at his residence.
Son of Charles Edward Watts and Garelyne Ann Robbs Watts of the home, he was a native of Gaffney and a 1991 graduate of Gaffney High School.
His last employment was a stock room clerk with Robert Allen Amtex. He attended Concord Baptist Church and Limestone Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Ivan Jajuan Watts of Fort Washington, Md.; and two sisters, Yolanda Robbs of Gaffney and Yolanda Jackson of Hamilton, Va.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Michael A. Bridges. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Saturday, where the family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until the hour of service.
The family is at the home of his sister, Yolanda Robbs, 116 Beltline Rd.

Frances L. Kearse
Retired textile employee
Frances Louise Kearse, 70, of 119 Scruggs Trail, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the wife of William Henry Kearse and daughter of the late Walter Jones and the late Dorothy Smith Jones. She was a retired textile employee and a member of Crestview Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are three sons, Dennis R. Kearse, Michael Kearse and Billy W. Kearse, all of Gaffney; a daughter, Vee Kearse of Gaffney; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Edna Teague of Chesnee; three brothers, Junior Jones, William Jones, both of Gaffney, and Horace Jones of Chesnee.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kearse was preceded in death by a son, Alan Kearse, and a sister, Lurlene Carswell.
Services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Rick Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m.
The family is at residence, where the body will be placed at 4 p.m. today.

Joseph R. Sicard
Maine native
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Joseph R. Sicard, 91, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003.
Mr. Sicard was born in Westbrook, Maine, on Jan. 15, 1912. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and the Sunshine Club.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Enid T. Sicard; daughter, Jane Blakeley of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Robert Bolton, Stephen Bolton, both of Virginia Beach, and Teresa Burton of Jacksonville, Fla.; nephews, Richard, James, Donald and William Tash of New England; a niece, Cecille Fitzpatrick of Westbrook, Maine; great-grandchildren, Robert Jr., Tiffany, Joseph, Theresa, Miranda, Collin, Cody and Jazmine; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Mr. Sicard was preceded in death by two sisters, Corrine May and Germaine Gallant, and two grandsons, Joseph Peru and James Bolton.
Dur to his wife’s medical condition, memorial services will be announced at a later time.

Dorothy M. Wilson
Kings Mountain native
BLACKSBURG – Dorothy Marie Wilson, 62, of 138 Fitch Rd., died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Kings Mountain, N.C., she was the common law wife of Lester Jones and daughter of the late Arthur Howard Wilson and the late Velonia Ellen Allwond Wilson. She was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and a homemaker and housewife.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two sons, Michael Bruce Finch Jr. of Blacksburg and Jeffery Scott Fitch of Lake Wylie; two stepsons, Joseph Jones and Ryan Jones of Wilmington, Del.; a stepdaughter, Sherry Rapposelli of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Linda Wilson Hill of Las Cruses, New Mexico, and Sandra Wilson of Grover; three brothers, Arthur (Bud) Howard Wilson Jr. of Grover, Steven Wayne Wilson of Blacksburg and Paul Eugene Wilson of Kings Mountain; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Craig Fitch.
Services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Gordon Mortuary Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brian Harris. Burial was in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott Fitch, Allen Nelson, Mark Davenport, Alvin Wylie, Mark Wylie and Troy Wilson.
The family is at the residence.
