Pamela C. Porter
Former administrative assistant at Sanders Bros.
Pamela Roxanne Cody Porter, 43, of 112 Martin Lane, Apt. 103, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, in Gaffney.
Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of Jerry O. Porter and daughter of Charles L. Sellars of Gaffney and the late Elsie F. Sellars. She was a former administrative assistant at Sanders Bros. Construction Company and was a member of Cherokee Gospel Tabernacle.
Also surviving are two daughters, Elyssa Brianna Cody and Jennifer Lianne Tate, both of Gaffney.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Porter was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Rev. C.E Willis and Alma Willis, and her paternal grandparents, Walt Cody and Lois Cody.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Betty Gentry and Richard Sellars. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mark Hood, Doug Richmond, Mark Scruggs, Brian Scott Adams, Bruce Price and Wesley Sellars.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Scruggs.
The family is at the home of her father, Charles L. Sellars, 202 Springwood Dr.
Memorials may be made to the Cherokee County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2223, Gaffney, S.C. 29342.

Jerry Fernandez Sr.
Cherokee County native
SPARTANBURG – Jerry Wayne Fernandez Sr., 52, of 192 Kensington Dr., husband of Versie M. Fernandez, died Friday, July 4, 2003, at 1:15 a.m. at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of Sammy Lee Fernandez of Boston, Mass., and Annie Ruth Haywood Keenan of Spartanburg. He was a member of Holy Temple Baptist Church in Cowpens and a U.S. Marine Corp veteran.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lanna Fernandez and Ciera Fernandez of the home; a son, Jerry Wayne Fernandez Jr. of the home; a sister, Anita Clayton of Spartanburg; six brothers, Charles Keenan, Vance Keenan, Willie Keenan, all of Spartanburg, Johnny Keenan of Cowpens, Jimmy Keenan of Columbia and Curley Keenan of Ridgeville; and a half-sister, Betty Smith of Spartanburg.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Holy Temple Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Lional Dawkins, Antonia Smith, Dorothy David, McKinley Myers and Dr. James W. Sanders Jr. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Cowpens. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers and flower bearers will be his nephews and nieces, respectively.

John E. Oglesby
Retired from Brown Packing
John Edward "Rabbit" Oglesby, 62, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at the Brevard Brain Center in Brevard, N.C.
Son of Arstrissa Jones Oglesby of Gaffney and the late Stacy Oglesby, he was a native of Gaffney and a retired butcher from Brown Packing Company after 42 years of service.
Also surviving are two sons, Greg Gaffney of Richmond, Va., and Joseph Gaffney of Gaffney; three sisters, Janie Dukes, Shirley Hollis and Brenda Davis of Gaffney; and three brothers, Robert Oglesby, William Harvey Oglesby and Harold Dean Oglesby of Gaffney.
The family is at Apt.12, Colonial Apartments.

Alverta H. Blanton
Services for Alverta Hamrick Blanton, 93, of 974 N. Green River Rd., will be held today at 1 p.m. at State Line Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charlie Blackwell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Blanton, Mark Blanton, Tim Morris, Terry Morris, Tony Morris, Justin Morris, Brandon Morris, Danny Ledford and Henry Weeks.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Wanda B. Morris, 966 Green River Rd.

Melford Buchannan
Retired from General Motors
Melford William Buchannan, 85, of 1203 Leadmine Rd., died Monday, July 7, 2003, at 11:50 p.m. at his residence.
A native of the Parish of Clarendon in Jamaica, West Indies, he was the husband of Lucendia Buckson Buchannan and son of the late Josiah Buchannan and the late Agness Lee Williams. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired from Fisher Body Company of General Motors. He was a member of the Church of England in Clarendon, Jamaica.
Also surviving are a daughter, Muriel Thompson Dyer of Jamaica, West Indies; a son, Landford Goffe Williams of Missouri City, Texas; a sister, Celestine Williams Brown; a brother, Robert Williams; three stepdaughters, Carmen Lizette Gist Lewis of Randallstown, Md., Janie Michelle Gist Boyd of Cleveland, Ohio, and Theresa Gist Baultrippe of St. Paul, Mo.; two stepsons, Clarence Albert Gist of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jonathan William Gist of Los Angeles, Calif; and 18 grandchildren.

Betty Jo Dale
Retired pharmacy clerk
Betty Jo Sarvis Brazell Dale, 68, of 3026 Bettis Rd., Earl, N.C., died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at her residence.
A native of Marion County, she was the daughter of the late Beulah Mae Ammons Sarvis and the late James Alton Sarvis. She was a retired pharmacy clerk and a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Robert (Bobby) Brazell of Earl; five daughters, Sue Hamrick of Blacksburg, Patricia Owens of Newbern, N.C., Pam B. Reynolds of Earl, Sandra Patterson of Blacksburg and Peggy Maynor of Gaffney; a brother, James W. Sarvis of Colorado Springs, Colo; two sisters, Wilma Brinnon of Gastonia and Dianne Kennedy of Lake Wylie; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver D. Sarvis and Larry J. Sarvis; and three sisters, Dorothy Baliles, Elsie Pennington and Odessa Helton.
Services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Lighthouse Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Grady Gregory. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Shane Parker, Ralphie Glenn, William (Bo) Hamrick, Tony Hamrick, Jamie Hamrick and Scott Ramsey.
The family is at 102 Meadow Brook Lane, Earl.

Mary M. Garner
Salisbury, Md., native
LANDRUM – Mary Faith McCall Garner, 33, of 127 Shamrock Park Dr., died Friday, July 4, 2003, at her home.
Born Jan. 9, 1970, in Salisbury, Md., she was the daughter of Mark C. and Mary McCall II of Spartanburg and Lorene and Forest Mullinax of Startex. She was a homemaker and member of Wellford Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Lee Garner of the home; a son, Steven Scott McCall of the home; two brothers, Mark Charles McCall III of Summerville and Paul William McCall of Spartanburg; and grandmother, Myrthice M. McGuigen of Spartanburg.
Services were held Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Wellford Baptist Church. Burial was in Wood Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of her mother and stepfather, Lorene and Forest Mullinax, 45 Chestnut St., Startex.
