Dennis S. Lipscomb
Funeral director, embalmer at Shuford-Hatcher
SHELBY – Dennis S. Lipscomb, 60, of 323 Circle View Dr., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at Hospice of Cleveland County at Wendover.
A native of Shelby, Mr. Lipscomb was the husband of Margaret Piercy Lipscomb and son of the late Edgar Wendell Lipscomb and the late Oris Lee Jones Lipscomb. He was funeral director and embalmer for Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home in Gaffney and was a 1964 summa cum laude graduate of the Cincinnati College of Embalming.
Mr. Lipscomb was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby, where he was an ordained deacon and former chairman of the pulpit committee.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Mitchell Lipscomb of Shelby; a daughter, Audrey Walker of Shelby; a brother, Eddie Lipscomb of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren, Westley Walker, Sallee Walker, Bethany Lipscomb and Abigail Lipscomb; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Vince Hefner. Burial will be today at 10 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.
Pallbearers will be Brian Lipscomb, Stephen Lipscomb, Robert Ledbetter Jr., Steve Ledbetter, Phillip Blanton and Chris Green.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Steadfast Sunday school Class.
The family is at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County at Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Fred “Shag” Allen
Gaffney native
Fred “Shag” Allen, 74, of 143 Jean Ave., Hempstead, N.Y., husband of Sarah C. Allen, died Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Hempstead.
Son of the late Ida Allen Norris, he was a native of Gaffney, a former member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church and 1955 graduate of Granard High School. He was a member of the football teams at Granard High and Maryland Eastern Shore University. He was a certified football official for Long Island Junior High Schools and for several years, he served as a trustee for Bethel A.M.E. Church in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y. He retired from Long Island Lighting Company.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Fred Allen Jr.; a daughter, Lori Allen; and a grandson, all of the home.
Services will be held Friday at noon at the Carl C. Burnett Funeral Home, 456 S. Franklin St., Hempstead, N.Y. 11550.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-5 p.m. and again from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mac McDaniel
Vietnam veteran
MOORESBORO, N.C. – Washington Woodrow “Mac” McDaniel Jr., 58, of 134 Nolan Rd., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of Ruth Godfrey McDaniel of Mooresboro and the late Washington Woodrow McDaniel Sr. He was retired from John H. Montgomery Mill, Chesnee, and served in Europe in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Hicks Grove Baptist Church.
Also surviving are a son, Jamie McDaniel of Mooresboro; a stepdaughter, Dawn Parris of Mooresboro; two brothers, Kenneth McDaniel of Gaffney and Lynn McDaniel of Forest City; and two sisters, Carolyn Humphries of Jacksonville, Fla., and Elaine Kinney of Mooresboro.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hicks Grove Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Raymond Byrd and Johnny McDaniel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at the church.

Annie Faye Smith
Retired from Skylyn Place
BOILING SPRINGS – Annie Faye Scruggs Smith, 63, of 1373 Peachtree Rd., died Monday, July 28, 2003, at her residence. She was the widow of Earl Smith who died in 1999.
Mrs. Smith was a native of Rutherford County, N.C., and daughter of the late Vernon Lee and Beulah Henson Morrow. She was retired from Skylyn Place and was a member of Hope Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Ellison of Albemarle, N.C.; three sons, Reggie Scruggs of Chesnee, Rocky Scruggs of Blacksburg and Tony Scruggs of Boiling Springs; a sister, Shirley Pittman of Micro, N.C.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 7-9 p.m. at Eggers Funeral Home in Boiling Springs.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Cash.
Memorials may be made to Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.
