Horace A. Charles
Retired auto mechanic
SPARTANBURG – Horace Alfred Charles, 80, of 443 Old Boiling Springs Rd., died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C.
Mr. Charles was a native of Spartanburg County and husband of Nan Poteat Charles of the home. He was a son of the late Toy and Patiance Black Charles and a retired automobile mechanic. He was a member of First Baptist Church North Spartanburg and a World War II Naval veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Myron Charles of Gaffney and Shannon Charles of Spartanburg; two stepdaughters, Crystal Searcy of Rutherfordton, N.C., and Carol Smith of Gaffney; a brother, Howard Charles of Greenville; four grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Eggers Funeral Chapel, conducted by Dr. Michael Hamlet. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will be at their respective homes.

Charlotte L. Wright
Retired vice-president of Bank of America
Charlotte Langley Wright, 69, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003.
Ms. Wright was born on June 18, 1934, in Opelika, Ala. She was a long-time employee of The Bank of America in Charlotte and retired as a vice-president in 2001. Her hobbies included gardening and spending time with her dogs and family. She was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving are her daughter, Deborah Wright Colbert of Gaffney; two sons, Denson Wright of Ellenton, Fla., and Derek Wright of Bradenton, Fla.; a stepbrother, Robin Webb of Apopka, Fla.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 15, from 6-9 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home, LaGrange, Ga., where services will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 16. Burial will be in Rosemere Cemetery in Opelika.
Memorials contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or The Salvation Army, Gaffney.

Geneva P. Henson
Retired from Gaffney Mfg.
Geneva P. Henson, 76, of P-73 Limestone Courts, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of James Howard Henson and daughter of the late Claude Pennington and the late Ollie Vida Pennington. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church and a retired canteen employee at Gaffney Manufacturing Co.
Surviving are two sons, Mike Hall and Steve Henson, both of Gaffney; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Lee Pennington, Joe Pennington, both of Gaffney, and Frank Pennington of Dixon, Texas; and a sister, Mary Lamb of Cherokee Falls.
Services will be held today at 1 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church, conducted by Drs. Ed McAbee and Larry Melton. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Duncan, David Haulk, Lee Haskel, Vernon Mullinax, Elbert Lipsey Jr. and Avery Mullinax.
The family is at 179 Ruth Dr., Gaffney.

Eunice A. Goforth
Cherokee County native
SHELBY – Eunice Allen Goforth, 65, formerly of 1113 Buffalo St., died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Wendover Health Care in Shelby.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Broadus Goforth and daughter of the late Clara Allen. She was a member of Christ Temple in Shelby.
Surviving are a daughter, Sadie Mae Allen Haney of Gaffney; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; four sisters, Mary Jo Allen of Gaffney, Shirley A. Allen of Vineland, N.J., Diane Allen and Janice Allen, both of Shelby; three brothers, Billy G. Allen of Broughton, N.C., the Rev. James E. Moss of Drew, Miss., and Bobby G. Allen of Vineland, N.J.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Christ Temple Church.
The family may be contacted in Gaffney at the home of her daughter, 915 Hetty Hill St., and in Shelby at the home of her sister, 129 Faith Dr., Waco, N.C.

Blaine T. Horton
Retired from Hoechst Celanese
COWPENS – Blaine Timothy Horton, 44, of 143 Warlick Rd., died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of Alta Horton of Gaffney and the late Marshall Horton. He was a former employee of Hoechst Celanese Corporation and was a member of the VFW. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karen Horton of Gaffney; two sons, David Horton and Joshua Horton, both of Gaffney; a brother, Larry Horton of Gaffney; two sisters, Karen Bolton of Blacksburg and Annette Evans of Gaffney; and two grandchildren.
The family is at 105 Palmetto St., Gaffney.

Raleigh J. Seagle
Retired from Duke Power
Raleigh “Shipyard” Jack Seagle, 72, of Gaffney, formerly of Jackson County, N.C., died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, at Canton Nursing Center after a period of declining health.
A native of Jackson, he had lived in Gaffney for the past 24 years and was a retired welder with Duke Power Co. He was a son of the late Glenn and Ollie Ashe Seagle and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. An avid fisherman, he was a member of Christian Covenant Church.
Mr. Seagle was preceded in death by two sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Rosemary Elders Seagle; two daughters, Debbie Sparks of Cullowhee, N.C., and Glenda Scruggs of Chesnee; two sons, Gary Seagle of Atlanta, Ga., and Darrell Seagle of Bryson City, N.C.; five sisters, Doris Sutton of Dillsboro, N.C., Ellen Revis of Whittier, N.C., Lahoma Seagle of Sylva, N.C., Ruby Johnson of Waynesville, N.C., and Ruth Davis of Woodberry, Tenn.; a brother, Dale Seagle of Cullowhee; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Terry Taylor and Abe Brooks. Burial will be in Elders Cemetery, Piney Mountain.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and at other times they will be at the home of his sister, Doris Sutton, 24 Macktown Rd., Sylva, N.C.

Josephine Thompson
Lifelong Chesnee resident; employed by Thompson’s Store
CHESNEE – Josephine Ezell Thompson, 90, of 550 Arrowood Branch Rd., died Monday, Aug. 11, 2003, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.
Mrs. Thompson, a lifelong resident of Chesnee, was the widow of Claude Edward Thompson and daughter of the late Jim and Dora Smith Ezell. She was an employee of Thompson’s Store, a homemaker and member of Cooley Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, Edward Thompson Bobby Thompson, both of Chesnee, Raymond Thompson of Campobello and Billy Joe Thompson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a sister, Eleanor Shields of Chesnee; two brothers, Hydrick Ezell of Chesnee and Dewitt Ezell of Spartanburg; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cooley Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Eggers Funeral Home in Chesnee.

Roy J. Corn
Sales clerk
Roy Jeffrey Corn, 47, of 348 Covered Bridge Rd., formerly of Woodruff, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Corn was the son of the late William Ezra Corn and the late Margaret McCullough Corn. He was a sales clerk and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Jeffrey Corn of Woodruff; a brother, William Terry Corn of Gaffney; a sister, Roseann Corn Hackett of Spartanburg; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Inman First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Skip Snyder.
Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.
Family members are at their respective homes.
