Amy Michelle Parris
11th grade student
Amy Michelle Parris, 16, of 3852 Union Highway, Gaffney, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at her residence.
Born in Spartanburg County on August 2, 1987, Amy was a lifelong resident of Gaffney. She was the daughter of Lester Eugene and Roberta Clyde Parris of the home.
Amy was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and was an 11th grade student.
In addition to her parents, Amy is survived by a brother, Brandon Kyle Parris of the home; maternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Dewitt Clyde of Gaffney; and paternal grandmother, Emily Helms Parris of Gaffney.
Her paternal grandfather, William T. Parris Sr., precedeased her.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Baptist Church, with Dr. Terry Duvall and the Revs. Jerry Ford, Jimmy Tarrant and David Toney officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, the Building Fund, 216 Macedonia Road, Gaffney, S.C. 29341.
The family is at the residence.

Charlie McFarland Jr.
Retired from textiles
CASAR, N.C. – Charlie Harrison McFarland Jr., 71, of 617 Moriah Church Road, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the home of his son.
Born on Jan. 16, 1933, in Cleveland County, N.C., he was the son of the late Charlie Harrison McFarland Sr. and the late Rosa Frances White McFarland. He was a retired maintenance technician in the textile industry and was a member of Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church and the Sandy Run Coon Club.
Mr. McFarland served in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are two sons, Neal McFarland and Wayne McFarland, both of Casar; a brother, Oscar McFarland of Lawndale, N.C.; two sisters, Rosa Robbins and Omie Davis, both of Blacksburg; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie McFarland; a brother, Plato McFarland; and two sisters, Mary Lee Hunt and Iona Luckadoo.
Services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Kelly Ottinger and Cecil Buff and Mr. Jason McFarland. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston, N.C.

Betty L. Patterson
Bookkeeper
YORK – Betty Leazer Patterson, 69, of 1008 Ridgecrest Mobile Home Park, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at her home.
Mrs. Patterson was born on March 30, 1934, in Gaffney and was a daughter of the late Jimmy Gann and Aretta Leazer. She was the wife of Bobby Patterson and was employed as a bookkeeper by Comporium in Rock Hill. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in York.
Surviving in addition to her husband are a daughter, Martha Alexander of Smryna; a sister, Martha Ridings of Gaffney; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held Saturday at noon at Hillcrest Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Kerry Ohiser and Jerry Lail.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Community Cares, 325 S. Oakland Ave., Rock Hill, S.C. 29730.

Eva B. King
Retired floral designer
SPARTANBURG – Eva Baker King, 78, of 4223 Chaffee Road, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at RoseCrest Nursing Home in Inman.
Mrs. King was born in Kyles Ford, Tenn., on March 7, 1926, a daughter of the late Alfred and Lela Wallen Baker. She was a charter member of the Evangel Cathedral and was a retired floral designer with 20 years of service.
Surviving are her husband, Howard Wayne King of the home; a daughter, Janice Renee King of Spartanburg; and a sister, Mary B. Fain of Spartanburg.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by two sisters, Sophie B. Livesay and Steila B. West; three brothers, Oscar B. Baker, Claude T. Baker and Alonzo D. Baker.
Services were held Friday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Lanford-Dunbar Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Charles Gaulden and the Revs. David Powell and Jan King. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Robert L. Phillips
Owner of Phillips Construction Co.
Robert Lewis Phillips, 64, of 2337 Overbrook Dr., died Saturday, March 20, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Guynell Harris Phillips of the home and son of Mary Scruggs Phillips of Gaffney and the late Roy Lee Phillips. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and was owner of Phillips Construction Company.
Also surviving are a son, Bobby Lee Phillips of Gaffney; a daughter, Sandy Phillips-Long of Gaffney; two brothers, Dave Lee Phillips and Johnny K. Phillips, both of Gaffney; two sisters, Mary Ruth Martin of Boiling Springs and Brenda P. Davis of Chesnee; and four granddaughters.
In addition to his father, Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Edward Phillips.
Services will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Stuart Kersey and Darrell Revels.
Friends may pay their respects to the family at the home on Overbrook Drive.

John E. Sheppard Sr.
Retired truck driver for Overnite Transportation
SHELBY – John Elmo Sheppard Sr., 77, died Friday, March 19, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Sheppard was born March 15, 1927, in Abingdon, Va., and lived in Gaithersburg, Md., prior to moving to Shelby. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired truck driver for Overnite.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Shoemaker Sheppard of the home; two daughters, Betty Shelton and Wanda Kay Sheppard, both of Shelby; two sons, John Sheppard Jr. and Steven Sheppard, both of Shelby; two brothers, George Sheppard of Mollusk, Va., and Larry Sheppard of Avon Park, Fla.; a sister, Margaret Sheppard of Alexandria, Va.; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Davidson Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Shoemaker.

Howard D. Ellis
Retired from Duke Power, Cliffside Steam Station
Howard Dean Ellis, 67, of 1236 Champion Ferry Road, died Friday, March 19, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Lillie Hawkins Ellis. He was retired from Duke Power Company, Cliffside Steam Station, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of Lavonia Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, former Sunday School teacher and choir member. He was a member of Lafayette Masonic Lodge in Gaffney.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by brothers, Miles Ellis, Niles Ellis, Ray Ellis, Joe Ellis and Winfred Ellis; and a sister, Genita Ellis.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Burke Ellis of the home; a daughter, Gina Hinds of Boiling Springs; two granddaughters; a brother, William Aster Ellis of Shelby, N.C.; and a sister, Lowell Lee Ellis of Gaffney.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Lavonia Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Buddy Morehead and Paul Brock. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Gibbs Cancer Center, 101 Wood St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.
The family will be at the residence.

Helen M. Norris
Services for Helen Marie Manning Norris, 79, of 2322 Wheleher Road, Mooresboro, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Mikes Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Robert L. Dover, Samuel Leach, Horand Jefferies, Modestine Manning and Dr. Michael Bridges. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. and the family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
Flower bearers and pallbearers will be members of Mikes Creek Usher Board.

Toledo K. Dawkins
Services for Toledo Kay Dawkins, 50, of 621 Concord Road, will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Danny Burnside, assisted by Brother Danny Tate and the Revs. Leroy Jackson and John E. Wilkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Honorary bearers will be employees of The Timken Company. Flower bearers will be her cousins. Pallbearers will be Robert Littlejohn, John P. Norris and her cousins.

Winfred Bonner
Winfred Bonner, 95, of Gaffney, died Sunday, March 21, 2004, in Brookview HealthCare Center.
Born in Cherokee County, he was a son of the late George and Bernice Moorhead Bonner and was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Clarence Bonner of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters, Lillian Sutson and Ruby Byars, both of Lynn, Mass.
Arrangements are incomplete. The Gilmore Mortuary is in charge.

Talmadge D. Gault III
Talmadge Dewitt (Trip) Gault III, 53, of 203 S. Limestone St., Apt. D, died today, March 22, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of T.D. (Jimmy) Gault Jr. of Liberty and Gloria Gault Humphries of Gaffney. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Steva G. Kiser and Gloria Gault Geary, both of Gaffney; and a brother, Ben Gault of Englewood, Fla.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church Chapel. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7-8 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of his mother, Gloria G. Humphries, 126 Greerbriar Dr.
