Voard Littlejohn
Cowpens native
COWPENS – Voard Littlejohn, 98, of 171 Pacolet Hwy., widower of Josephine Thomas Littlejohn, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at 4:10 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Son of the late Jack Littlejohn and the late Eva L. Littlejohn, he was a native of Cowpens and member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Sanders Littlejohn of Columbus, Ga., and Cora Culbreth of Cowpens who was like a daughter.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. McKinley Miles, Lionel Dawkins, Harold Simpson Jr., Mills McHam and Dr. A.L. Brackett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Ruth B. Galmon
Cherokee County native
Ruth Butler Galmon, 71, of 413 Marion Ave., widow of James Galmon Sr., died Friday, April 16, 2004, at 5:34 p.m. in Spar-tanburg Regional Healthcare Center.
Daughter of the late Nelson Butler Sr. and the late Ella McCollum Butler, she was a native of Cherokee County and a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathy Galmon of Gaffney; five sons, James Galmon Jr., Calvin Galmon, Jimmy Galmon, Vinson Galmon and Maurice Galmon of Gaffney; a brother, Nelson "Pete" Butler Jr. of Gaffney; a sister, Helen B. Camp of Gaffney; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shalmon Christian Fellowship Church, 1012 Beech St., with the pastor, Rev. Stanley Watson, and Rev. Tracy Miller officiating. Burial will be in Gaffney Memorial Park. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Dean Byers, John Williams, Chris Watkins, Sheldon Phillips, Jamie Keeter and Tyrone Davis.
Flower bearers will be Robin Wilkins, Tamoo McCluney, Wilma Ann Camp, Janice Patterson, Mary Ann Williams, LaKendra Rainey and Lisa Johnson.

Sammie L. Jenkins
Retired janitor from Gaffney High School
Sammie Lee Jenkins, 67, of Nae Fort Sanders Nursing Home, 2120 Highland Ave., Knoxville, Tenn., died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at 12:30 p.m. In Gaffney, he resided at 1424 Leadmine St.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Clarence Jenkins and the late Anna Brown Jenkins. He was a 1956 graduate of Granard High School and was a retired janitor from Gaffney High School. He attended Day of Life Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Annie Kelly Jenkins of Knoxville; four sons, Terry Jenkins of Gaffney, Roger Jenkins of Nashville, Tenn., Sammie Keith Jenkins of Knoxville and Timothy Jenkins of Little Creek, Va.; three daughters, Beverly Wynn, Kim Blair and Ramona Jenkins of Knoxville; a brother, John Robert Jenkins of Gaffney; two sisters, Anna Marie Harris and Mrs. Neil Smith of Gaffney; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The family will be at the home of his sister, Anna Marie Harris, 116 Deal St., Gaffney.

Jake E. Hicks
Retired purchasing agent
McDONOUGH, Ga. – Jake Edward Hicks, 88, formerly of the Jacksonville, Fla., area, died Friday, April 16, 2004, at Westbury Medical Care Home in Jackson, Ga.
Mr. Hicks was born Sept. 28, 1915, in Gaffney to the late Duke Wellington Hicks and the late Mary Shuford Hicks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phoebe McFarland Hicks, in 1977. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Gaffney and was a retired purchasing agent for a road construction company.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by a brother, Duke W. Hicks Jr., and a sister, Meatrice Hicks Speer.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou Robinson of McDonough; a son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Jinky Hicks of Texas; grandchildren, Lee and Carla Robinson, Courtney Hicks and Jake Hicks; and great-grandchildren, Kyle, Kasey and Kayla Robinson.
Graveside services were held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, conducted by the Rev. Dewitt Clyde.
The family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mr. Hicks.
Haisten Funeral Home of McDonough, Ga., and Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home of Gaffney were in charge of arrangements.

Miriam Martin Deal
Cherokee County native
Miriam Deal, 96, died Sunday, April 12, 2004 in Naples, Fla., where she had lived for a number of years.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the widow of Robert Lee Deal of Concord, N.C., and daughter of the late William Benjamin and Della Ezell Martin of Gaffney. She was a member of Westford Methodist Church, Concord.
Surviving are a son, William Clinton Deal of Naples, Fla., and several nephews, including Bobby Sanders of Florence; and one niece, Judy Sanders Nix of Gaffney.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Deal was preceded in death by brothers, Dewey Laverne Martin and Murgatroyd Dewitt Martin; and sisters, Norene M. Bridges, Yetive M. Sanders and Vera Ezell Martin.
A private service will be held on Saturday at the West Concord Cemetery in Concord.
