Edith M. Watson
Retired from Carey Moving and Storage
SPARTANBURG – Edith Mabry Watson, 75, of 107 Oak Leaf Drive, died Sunday, May 9, 2004, at her home.
Born on April 18, 1929, in Jonesville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Pete and Ethel Holcombe Mabry.
Mrs. Watson was a lifelong member of the Gilead Baptist Church in Jonesville and a graduate of Jonesville High School. She retired from Carey Moving and Storage Inc. with 25 years of service.
Surviving are daughters, Sadie W. Cooke of Spartanburg and Wilda W. Cobb of Atlanta, Ga.; son, Larry James Watson and wife, Cindy Pruett Watson, of Pauline; five grandchildren; sister, Martha M. Jolley of Gaffney; and brother, Francis Mabry of Wilmington, Delaware.
Sisters, Ozalee M. Ward, Audrey M. Farmer and Mary M. McAbee; and brothers, Crawford Pete Mabry and George Mabry predeceased Mrs. Watson.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 12, at the Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Lawton Neely officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Mary B. Vassey
Retired teacher assistant
Mary Margaret Boyter Vassey, 65, of 505 College Drive, died Monday, May 10, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Woodruff, she was the widow of Albert Dean Vassey and daughter of the late R. Clay Boyter and the late Margaret Gould Boyter.
Mrs. Vassey graduated from Woodruff High School and attended Coker College in Hartsville and Limestone College in Gaffney. She was a retired teacher assistant after 25 years with the Cherokee County School District. She was a member of Buford Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are sons, Al Clay Vassey and wife, Barbara B. Vassey, and Donnie Dean Vassey and wife, Becky Vassey, all of Gaffney; daughters, Myra V. Blanton, Lisa V. and husband, Richard Jones, and Jennifer V. and husband, Terry Wright, all of Gaffney; sister, Anne Boyter of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Patrick Clay Vassey, Shannon Marie Vassey, Catrina Nicole Hallman, James Devin Munsey, Alyssa Cheyenne Munsey, Tamara Danielle Jones, Staci Michelle Jones, Danika Richelle Jones, Nathaniel Vassey Jones, Taylor Marie Vassey, Daira Deanna Vassey, Houston Baylor Wright, Maguire Bayne Wright; great-grandchildren, Kalli Destiny Hallman, Austin MaLeak Hallman and Tiara Desaree Hallman.
Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Terry Pleasant and Rich Lancaster.
The family is at the residence.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 310-B Bennett Center Drive, Greer, S.C. 29650.

Alberta C. Fowler
Charter member of Faith Baptist Church
Alberta Coyle Fowler, 85, of 1236 Pacolet Hwy., died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at her residence.
A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of James Bryant Fowler and daughter of the late John Bud Coyle and the late Eva Blanton Coyle. She was retired from textiles and was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Alberta Fowler Sunday School class. She was a charter member of the Gold Star Wives of America Inc.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by nine sisters and one brother.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Clary and Shirley Blanton, both of Gaffney; a son, Johnnie Fowler of Gaffney; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a brother, C. Howard Coyle of Gaffney.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Delos Blanton, Jimmy Powell and B.F. Coyle. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Vince Moore Sr., Johnny Mac Brown, Stanley Wolfe, Winfred Blanton, Bo Burchfield and Jason Keller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Blanton and J.S. George.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-7 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 10794, Greenville, S.C. 29603; or to Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Blvd., Suite 101, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.

Rufus A. Littlejohn
Services for Rufus Alexander (Chubby) Littlejohn will be held today at 3 p.m. at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Robert L. Dover, Kathy Neal and Lizzie Bridges. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Charles Smith, Jackie Jefferies, Larry Ratchford and his nephews.
Flower bearers will be his nieces.

Phylistine L. Vanlue
Services for Phylistine Larenda Vanlue, 33, of Glenn Wood Drive, Spartanburg, will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Michael A. Bridges and the Revs. Robert E. Collins, James H. Taylor III and Dorothy Bruton. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 3 p.m.
Pallbearers will be James Littlejohn, Chauncey Wilson, Ike Bridges, Rusty Mills, Gary Martin, Mike Black, James Gist and Andrew Jazz McCollum.
Flower bearers will be her classmates of Gaffney High School Class of 1988.
The family is at the home of her parents, Herbert Lee Vanlue and Christine Smith Vanlue at 247 Estelle Road, Gaffney.
