LeRoy Maynor
Retired motel operator
LeRoy Maynor, 100, formerly of Fairfield Apartments, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Peachtree Centre.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the widower of Frances Estes Maynor and son of the late B.M. Maynor and the late Nanny Sanders Maynor. He was a retired motel operator and member of East Gaffney Baptist Church.
Surviving are two brothers, Arthur Maynor and R.M. Maynor, both of Gaffney; a sister, Estelle Spencer of Gaffney; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ron Jackson. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Fred W. Sprouse
Former City of Gaffney Democratic Party chairman
Fred Wilson Sprouse, 85, of 403 Chatham Ave., died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home.
A native of Gaffney, he was the widower of Margaret Mathes Sprouse and son of the late Calvin Lee Sprouse and the late Anna Wyatt Sprouse. He was a retired insurance salesman and member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran and member of DAV, Jack Daniels Chapter. He was a Mason, member of Granard Lodge 186 and former Democratic Party chairman for the City of Gaffney.
Surviving are a son, Rodney Sprouse of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Nicklaus Sprouse, Brandon Moran and Shannon Mueller; and one great-grandchild, Braden Mueller.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by Mr. Ashby Blakely.
The family is at 1000 S. Petty St.

Josie B. Smith
Retired from Springs Ind.
Josie Bowman Smith, 84, of 957 Overbrook Drive, Apt. D-1, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at National Health Care of Mauldin.
A native of Greer, she was the widow of Grady Thomas Smith and daughter of the late Joe H. Bowman and the late Emma E. Thornton Bowman. She was retired from Springs Industries and was a member of East Gaffney Baptist Church. She lived in Great Falls for several years.
Surviving are a daughter, Dorothy Sanders of Greenville; son-in-law, Ted Sanders; daughter-in-law, Susan Chiasson and husband, Dave; four grandchildren, Natalie Narramore and husband, David, Paige Sullivan, and Laura Powell and husband, Brian, and Joe Smith; 10 great-grandchildren, John-David Narramore, Ashley Taylor Narramore, Hunter Narramore, Connor Sullivan, Josie Powell, Forrest Powell, Elijah Powell, Jennifer Boyanton, Eli Narramore and Lindsay Smith; a sister, Nell Daves of Shelby; a brother, Mabry Bowman of Shelby; and a special niece, Iris West of Gaffney.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at East Gaffney Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ron Jackson. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Bertha Baker Sunday School Class at East Gaffney Baptist Church.

Alfred Williams
World War II Army veteran
GROVER, N.C. – Alfred Olander Williams, 75, of 2322 Blacksburg Road, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at his home.
A native of Gaffney, he was retired from Waldensian Bakeries as a route salesman and store manger. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member and former deacon of New Hope Baptist Church and a charter member of No. 3. V.F.D.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, W.H. “Bill” and Bessie Lavender Williams; his first wife, Iva Jean Williamson; a brother, Ernest Dean Williams; a sister, Betty Ruppe; and a niece, Sonja Kay Ruppe.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Gladys Cook Williams of the home; three sons, John Dale Williams of Earl, Dale Beaver and wife, Susan, of Polkville and Johnny Beaver of Lawndale; two daughters, Barbara Carroll and husband, Wallace, of Grover and Judy Floyd and husband, Bobby, of Polkville; a brother, Billy Lee Williams and wife, Dolly, of Shelby; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Ruppe of Gaffney; a sister-in-law, Lucille Williams of Gaffney; five grandchildren, Dara Floyd, Miranda Queen, Jason Starnes, Erin Champion and Adam Beaver; three great-grandchildren, Haley Queen, Jackson Champion and Sydney Champion.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. David Gordon, Broadus Heatherly and Russ Bradley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday in the church life center one hour prior to the services and at other times they will be at the home.

UNION – Services for Wendy Jean Morris Wilson, 43, of 107 Oak St., will be held today at 4 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. L.C. Roberts. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery, Gaffney.

BLACKSBURG – Services for Theresa Caldwell Stout, 77, of 137 Mullinax Circle, will be held Sun-ay at 2 p.m. at Zoar A.M.E. Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Marion John-son. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mary Ann Holmes
Services for Mary Ann Palmer Smith Holmes, 50, of 200 Peeler St., will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at True Holiness Church of the Living God, conducted by Elder Theodore Lockhart, Evangelist Laquanda Brannon and the Revs. Louis Davis, F.J. Means and Tina P. Posey. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at Foster Funeral Home.

Lawrence Gregory Jr.
Retired from U.S. Army
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lawrence Gregory Jr. of 4232 Kildare Drive, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, in Moses H. Cone Hospital.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Lawrence Gregory Sr. and the late Clara Simmons Gregory. He was a graduate of Granard High School and was retired from the U.S. Army.
Surviving are two sisters, Miller Rawlison and Alma Jean Donnell, both of Greensboro; three brothers, Bobby Gregory of Gaffney, Marshall Gregory and William Gregory of Augusta, Ga.
Services were held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment was in Westminister Gardens.
The family is at the home of his sister at 4201 Falconridge Road, Greensboro.

Dennis R. Fowler Sr.
Automotive body and paint expert
Dennis Reginald "Reggie" Fowler Sr., 58, of 109 Cedar St., died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at his home.
Born Oct. 23, 1945, in Gaffney, he was the son of Sarah Vess Fowler of Gaffney and the late Paul Cleveland Fowler. He was the husband of Jackie Painter Fowler and was first married to the late Linda Faith Fowler. He was an automotive body and paint expert and a member of Freedom Fellowship Baptist Church.
Also surviving are two sons, Dennis R. Fowler Jr. and Paul M. Fowler, both of Gaffney; two daughters, Lynn R. Wright of Gaffney and Paula F. Guilmette of Cowpens; a sister, Paulette Dillingham of Blacksburg; and nine grandchildren.
A private memorial service was held.
Visitation will be at the home of a daughter, Lynn Wright, 135 Northview Drive, Gaffney, today and Saturday. Flowers may be sent to this address.

Maggie Lipscomb
PACOLET MILLS – Services for Maggie Lipscomb, 66, of 184 Knuckles St., will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Montgomery Chapel Baptist Church in Pacolet, conducted by the Rev. Tony Scott. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
