Ronnie H. Fowler Sr.
Owner of Service Electric
Ronnie Hames Fowler Sr., 56, of 1857 Gowdeysville Road, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1004, in Spartanburg Regional Healthcare.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Brenda Gail Reynolds Fowler and son of the late James Wofford Fowler Sr. and the late Alma Louise Mabrey Fowler. He owned Service Electric for 20 years and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kimberly F. Horton of Spartanburg; two sons, Ronnie Fowler Jr. and Christian Fowler, both of Gaffney; a brother, James Wofford Fowler Jr. of Gaffney; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Cherokee County Unit, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, S.C. 29615.

Arthur W. Fowler
Retired from textiles
PACOLET – Arthur Walker Fowler, 71, of 162 Silver Springs St., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
A native of Roebuck, he was the husband of Juanita Littlejohn Fowler and son of Mabel Edge Fowler of Pacolet and the late Henry W. Fowler. He was retired from textiles and was a member of Brown's Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are a son, Ricky Fowler, of Pacolet and a brother, Lamont Fowler of Carrollton, Ga.
A memorial service, graveside, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at White Rose Cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Harold Patton Sr., Dennis Tessnier and Tim Fowler. Interment will be in White Rose Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brown's Chapel Baptist Church after the graveside service and at other times they will be at the residence, 162 Silver Springs St., Pacolet.

Arthur B. Laughlin
Arthur Bruce (Pee Wee) Laughlin, 50, of 131 Marietta Road, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Ovid Fred Laughlin and the late Burty Mae Dover Laughlin. He was formerly employed by City Cab and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a brother, Fred Junior (Coot) Laughlin of Gaffney; two sisters, Barbara Ann Pierce and Shirley Elizabeth Ramsey, both of Gaffney; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jack N. Kirby
Retired from Timken
Jack Nesbitt Kirby, 76, of 903 Ninth St., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Marie Denton Kirby of the home and son of the late Alonzo W. Kirby and the late Edna Wilkins Kirby. He was retired from Timken Bearing Company and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Shirley Harris, Brenda Webb and Jackie Irvin, all of Gaffney; two brothers, Fred Kirby of Spartanburg and Robert Kirby of Gaffney; two sisters, Lonnie Belle Spencer and Grace Keller, both of Gaffney; six grandchildren, Stephanie Jolley, Jason Harris, Chad Webb, Christa Smith, Ashley Irvin and Betty Irvin.
Graveside services will be held today at 4 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Larry E. Irvin Sr.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Webb, Mickey Harris, Larry Irvin Jr., Chad webb, Jason Harris, Brett Irvin and Josh Smith.
The family is at the residence, 903 Ninth St.

Jimmy C. Smith
Retired brick mason
Jimmy Carl Smith, 55, of 215 O'Sage Drive, died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at 11:08 a.m. in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Son of the late Leon Smith and the late Gennie Dunn Smith, he was a native of Cherokee County and member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He was a retired brick mason.
Surviving are a son, Scott Brown of Gastonia, N.C.; three daughters, Reva Ann Dawkins, Sharon Dawkins and Wilma Flack, all of Gaffney; a sister, Nannie Jefferies of the home; and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Foster Funeral Home, conducted by the Revs. Dennis Smith, Roger Mason, Freddie Smith and Gerard Smith. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Elsie D. Hood
Rutherford County native
CHESNEE – Elsie Dimsdale Hood, 75, of 745 Cliffside Hwy., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Hood was the wife of David Hood and daughter of the late Pierce Dimsdale and Ollie Melton Dimsdale. She was a member of Brooklyn Baptist Church and a native of Rutherford County, N.C.
Also surviving are a daughter, Maria Lynn Sprouse of Gaffney; two sons, Dennis Alan Hood of Chesnee and Johnny Winford Hood of Greenville; four sisters; one brother; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at 3 p.m., conducted by the Revs. Charles Garrett and Earl Byars. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice, c/o 775 Spartanburg Blvd., Spartanburg, S.C.

Roy Dean Mathis
Retired from Timken
Roy Dean Mathis, 71, of 100 Vance Ave., died Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Delores Williams Mathis and son of the late LeRoy Mathis and the late Geneva Kelley Mathis. He was an electrician and was retired from Timken Bearing Company. He was a member of Kirby Memorial Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of Korea.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Kim Weathersbee of Gaffney; a son, Ricky Mathis of Cowpens; two sisters, Jane Shull of Rock Hill and Lilorce Rasmussen of Iowa City, Iowa; two grandsons, Chad Wylie and Andrew Ledford; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Joel Sellers and Acott Hammett. The eulogy will be given by his grandson, Chad Wylie. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Ellis, Roger Williams, Jimmy Williams, Mike Padgett, Robert Davidson, Joe Parris, John Wyatt and Alfred Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Allen, Dean Wylie, Andrew Ledford, Clarence Bishop, Bill Bishop , Billy Hyatt and James Broome.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 1612 N. Limestone St., Gaffney, S.C. 29341; or to Kirby Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 512 Chandler Drive, Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Suda C. White
Retired from Quick as a Wink Dry Cleaners
SPARTANBURG – Suda Catherine Whelchel Humphries White, 78, of 133 Nelson Ave., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004.
Born Feb. 21, 1926, in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Ebin and Suda McAbee Whelchel. She was first married to the late Lew S. Humphries and then to the late Gene White. She was retired from Quick as a Wink Dry Cleaners and was a member of Arkwright Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Kenny Humphries of Tennessee and Nicky Humphries and his wife, Denise, of Gaffney; a daughter, Sheri Norris and her husband, Billy, of Pacolet; grandchildren, Kathy and Mark Williams of Union, Steve and April Hall of Kentucky, Bruce and Stacey Humphries, Chris Humphries, Christy Greene and Chad and Jamie Humphries, all of Gaffney; five great-grandchildren, Chase Humphries, Ashley Williams, Kelsey Hall, Hayley Humphries, and Kolbie Humphries; and two sisters, Ruby Tucker of York and Margaret Turner of Gaffney.
Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel, conducted by the Revs. John Cox and Mike Mcgee. Burial was in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaffney.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Ave., Suite 300, Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.
The family is at the home or her daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Billy Norris, 515 Deerwood Drive, Pacolet.

Willie L. Wood Jr.
Cherokee County native
Willie Lee Wood Jr. of Sumter died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, in Sumter.
Son of Willie Lee Wood Sr. and Pamela Littlejohn Wood of Gaffney, he was a native of Cherokee County.
Surviving in addition to his parents, Willie Lee Wood Sr. and Pamela Littlejohn Wood, are two sons, Torus Houey of Gaffney and Corey Earl of Blacksburg; three sisters, Delphine Wood, Barbara Wood and Sherena Wallace, all of Gaffney; and two brothers, Lamar Wood and Charlie Hopper, both of Gaffney.
The family is at the home of his parents, Willie and Pamela Wood, 602 Littlejohn St., Gaffney.
