Zora H. Palmer
Retired from Cherokee Schools Food Services
Zora Lee Henderson Palmer, 88, formerly of Gaffney and a resident at Windsor House Assisted Living in Spartanburg for the past six years, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Mary Black Memorial Hospital.
Born in Henrietta, N.C., Mrs. Palmer was the widow of James Jonathan Palmer and daughter of the late Zeno Henderson and the late Tessie Norman Henderson. She was retired from the Cherokee County Schools Food Services and was a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church in Gaffney. She was a homebound worker and member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg.
She is survived by two daughters, Alecia Palmer and Martha Palmer Frye, a son-in-law, Dr. Walter R. Frye, and three grandchildren, Wally, Jonathan and Elizabeth Frye, all of Spartanburg; two sisters-in-law, Blanche Smith of Gaffney and Mae Henderson of Newport News, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by her brother, Millard Henderson, of Newport News, Va.
Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Martha Frye, 109 Roscommon Run, Spartanburg.
Memorials may be made to Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church, 805 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or the Building Fund of Southside Baptist Church, 316 S. Church St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29303.

Kenneth O. Allen
Student at Blacksburg High
BLACKSBURG Kenneth OBrian Allen, 16, known to many as Man, of 131 Bolin Rd., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at 9:48 p.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the son of Shelia Allen of the home and Ivan Bailey of Pacolet. He was a ninth grade student at Blacksburg High School and attended Knuckles Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Martika Garrison and Darneisha Garrison of the home; two brothers, Darris Garrison of the home and Wilbert Freddie Allen of Spartanburg; grandparents, Mary Williams of Gaffney, Paulett Bailey, Jerry Bailey, both of Pacolet, and Ladon Ashe of Spartanburg; and great-grandmother, Ola Sue Ashe of Gaffney.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Knuckles Chapel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kerwin Wray. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Lindon Bailey, Marcus Galmon, Farris Degree, Cameron Garrison, Dominique Garrison and Romea Adams.
Flower bearers will be Sijuana Davidson, Vickie Bailey, Chelsea Crosby, Courtney Degree, Tikira Degree, Desaree Shippy, Tarsha Bailey and Kishi Garrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Demand Allen, Larry Allen, Chris Nance, Shawn Nance, Treluis Thompson and Demaria Allen.
The family is at 503 Oakland Ave., Gaffney

Jesse C. Hiers Sr.
Former county supervisor of Farmers Home Adm.
Jesse C. Hiers Sr., 80, of 119 Robinhood Dr., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Ehrhardt, S.C., he was the husband of Betty Cromer Hiers of the home and son of the late Haskell J. Hiers and the late Elizabeth Smith Hiers. He was a retired county supervisor for the Farmers Home Administration and was a graduate of Clemson. Mr. Hiers was a member of Cherokee National Golf Club and Lan-Yair Golf Club of Spartanburg and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Limestone Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son and daughter-in-law, Chappell and Ann Dora Hiers of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Haley and Matthew Hiers; a brother, H.J. Hiers Jr. of Columbia; and a sister, Elizabeth Price of Columbia.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Limestone Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dan Youngblood. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.
Pallbearers will be Don Wilkins, George Coggins, Tracy Parris, J.R. Robbs, Dennis Beheler and John L. Gray.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.
Memorials may be made to Limestone Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Jefferies St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340; or to the charity of ones choice.

William F. Hughes
Retired construction worker
William (Bill) Francis Hughes, 80, of 160 Hackberry Dr., died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at White Oak Manor, Spartanburg.
A native of Cherokee County, he was the husband of Sarah Elizabeth Spencer Hughes of the home and son of the late Connie Francis Hughes and the late Nora Erwood Hughes. He was a retired construction worker and of the Baptist faith. Mr. Hughes was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Mickey Hughes of Greenville and Terry Hughes of Florida; a daughter, Cheryl Hughes Moss of Gaffney; a brother, John Blakely Hughes of Rock Hill; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bill Lutz. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hughes, Rod Hughes, Cecil Watts, Mike Moss, Mikie Moss and Ricky Spencer.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7-8:30 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the residence.
