I have read reports of cave drawings in France that portray our ancient ancestors enjoying a steaming hot bowl of winter squash soup.

I don’t know if this story is true, but it is an undisputed fact that winter squash soup recipes have been around for a long time. So long, in fact, that I felt this old standby was in desperate need of a makeover.

R. Steve Clark and Brenda H. Clark of Blacksburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Lacey Wray Clark, of Shelby, to Christopher William Shull, also of Shelby.

Miss Clark is a graduate of Limestone College with a B.A. degree in History and from Gardner-Webb University with a M.A. in School Counseling. She is a school counselor at Blacksburg High School.

Black History program Feb. 27 at Gaffney High

Gaffney High School’s annual Black History Month program will be held Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the GHS Auditorium. The theme is "Honoring Great Women in American Culture and History. ”

There will be performances by the Gaffney High School Gospel Choir, Honor Choir, Jazz Band, drama students, Kappa League, Delta Society and others.
