  • Limestone College will re-dedicate the Hamrick Hall of Science Friday at 2 p.m., unveiling a new classroom that stands as the education wave of the future.

Limestone spent $900,000 to renovate the front section of Hamrick Hall of Science in 1995. The college recently spent additional money to install central air conditioning in the science classroom areas and convert a 150-seat lecture hall into a high-tech classroom.

Often called a “Smart Classroom,” the lecture hall is equipped with multimedia equipment that will allow professors to use PowerPoint presentations, video and other technology to enhance classroom lectures. The new facility will be called the Wylie L. and Frances S. Hamrick Media Technology Classroom.

Limestone College vice president for academic affairs Charles Cunning said the lecture hall will provide professors with tremendous flexibility in using technology in their classes.

“This is a multipurpose classroom that will be very heavily used. It has all the bells and whistles,” Cunning said. “When a professor gets ready to show a film, the lights will automatically dim and the venetian blinds will close. There is a place for students to slide the computers under the desks when they aren’t in use in class.”

During the dedication ceremony, Limestone College officials will give a tour and a demonstration of the multimedia technology classroom.
