What’s Up

Fall festivals

n Beaverdam Baptist Church will have a fall festival Saturday at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit needy families for Christmas.

n Calvary Baptist Church, 2929 Cherokee Ave., will have a fall festival with food and fun Saturday from 4-8 p.m. There will lots of games for children, a cake auction and drawings for gift certificates. Glory to Him will sing at 4 and a Trunk-or-Treat will be at 7:30.

n Radiant Life Assembly of God on Winslow Avenue will have a Harvest Happening Sunday from 6-9 p.m. There will be games for children and teens along with a costume contest. Fireworks, a bonfire and hot cocoa finish off the night.

n Gaffney Free Will Baptist Church will have a fall festival Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.

Halloween events

n A haunted house can be seen today through Sunday at Buffalo VFD, 137 Blackwell Road, just off Hwy. 5. Admission is $5 person and the hours are 7 p.m. until.

n DMW Volunteer Fire Department will have a spook house on McKowns Mountain Road today through Sunday from dark until. All proceeds go to the fire department.

Meetings

n The Cherokee County Mental Health Association will have its annual meeting Nov. 8 at noon at the Cherokee County Mental Health Office, 125 Robinson St. Constance Shepard, affiliate director of the S.C. Mental Health Association, will be the guest speaker. MHA members are invited to attend. Lunch will be served.

Fund raisers

n A fish and hot dog dinner will be held Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Limestone Lodge No. 117 on East Meadow Street. Hot dog plates will be $5; fish plates, $6; fish sandwich, $3.50; and a hot dog, $1.50. Plates will be served with slaw and baked beans.

Religious events

n The Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of the Church of the Incarnation, 308 College Drive, will have a multi-family yard sale and bake sale on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 7-11 a.m. All proceeds will go to various mission projects. There will be plenty of bargains.

n Park Hills Baptist Church will have a Trunk-or-Treat and hot dog supper Saturday from 5-6:30 p.m. Hot dogs will be $1 each or hot dog plates will be $3.

n True Gospel Independent Baptist Church on Pondfield Road in the Draytonville Community will have its 5th Sunday night singing Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. Guests will be The Tessnears of Pacolet.

n White Plains Baptist Church on Soap Stone Road will have a 5th Sunday night singing Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. featuring the Living Stones.

n Women on Mission/Baptist Women are invited to a candlelight prayer and praise tea in honor of women around the world on Monday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A Worldcraft Party will follow. To register call 489-0405 by Oct. 30. Leave a message with name, church's name and number of women attending.

n Northside Baptist Church, located on the corner of North Logan and Holland streets,will have its 40th World Missions Conference Oct. 31-Nov. 7. The theme is “Our Mission – Reach the Missions.” There will be services each Sunday at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weeknight services will be at 7. Veteran missionaries and some who are on deputation preparing to go to the mission field will be present. For more information, call 489-8977.

n The Senior Missionaries and YWAs of the Thickety Mountain Baptist association will have their Fifth Sunday program Oct. 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Association Building. Antioch, Mt. Zion, Mikes Creek and Island Creek Baptist churches will be in charge. The men will present “Steps for Personal Soul winning and the choirs will sing.

n McKowns Mountain Baptist Church will hold its 5th Sunday singing at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31. Paul Smith, Rodney Bright, Chad Wisher and Ben Godwin from Calvary Baptist Church compose the group.

n Southside Baptist Church, 204 W. O’Neal St., will have a Day of Praise Oct. 31. Besides the regular morning service at 10:30, there will be a special singing at 5 p.m. Following the singing there will be a hot dog supper. To finish off the evening there will be a Treat N’-A-Trunk for all ages in the parking lot.

n Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have a 5th Sunday night singing Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. Guests will be Real Faith.

n Gaffney Free Will Baptist Church, 187 Whelchel Road, just behind the Peachoid, will have a special day Sunday, Oct. 31, beginning at 11 a.m., which includes speaker, Rev. Mike Jones, promotional director of the Beaver Creek Free Will Baptist Association; singing by The Rogers Trio from Blacksburg and Pastor Appreciation Day. Dinner will be served.

Special events

n A dedication and opening of the Remembrance Garden and Pond at the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31. The garden is a tranquil setting where one can sit and reflect on the memories of loving and faithful friends who have left smiles upon our hearts. One will cross over the Rainbow Bridge and enter the garden where cascading water can be heard tumbling six feet over natural rock falls into the pond. With a statue of St. Francis overlooking the pond and all the natural beauty of this hollowed ground, a beoved pet’s ashes can be sprinkled into the pond where they will be returned to the earth.
