Fundraiser set for victims of fire
Relatives and friends are sponsoring a fundraiser to help a Gaffney family who have no place to call home after a fire destroyed their home on Temple Street last Monday afternoon. Vanessa Gist only had time to grab her children and run from their home at 208 Temple St. after she accidentally spilled kerosene while filling a portable heater. She said the heater exploded.. A fish fry, hash and hot dog sale will be held from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday at the VFW Post “The Hut” on Park Street in Gaffney. Fish plates are $5 while hash plates are $6. Plates include cole slaw, bread and baked beans. Hot dogs, chips and a drink will be sold for $2.50. Hash and fish sandwiches, hot dogs and sodas will also be sold separately. Gist did not have renter’s insurance and has been referred to the American Red Cross for further assistance, according to reports. The front porch, living room, dining room, back porch, bathroom and kitchen of the home had significant fire damage, with heat and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house. The home is owned by Keith Johnson of Gaffney. For more information call Natalie at 838-4139, Consandra at 425-9045, Vanessa at 590-8888, or James at 266-6273.
