Church events n The Senior Brotherhood Ministry of Friendship Baptist Church, 1498 W.O. Ezell Blvd., Spartanburg, will have a pre-Thanksgiving service today, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. Rev. Amos Durham, pastor of Ridgeville Baptist Church, will be guest speaker. n The Thanksgiving Fellowship of Churches Service for Island Creek, Knuckles Chapel, Lewis Chapel, White Plains, Holy Temple, Mt. Calvary and Green Bethel Baptist churches will be held today at 7 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 299 S. Linda St., Cowpens. The message will be brought by Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr., pastor of Island Creek Baptist Church. Music will be rendered by the combined choirs of the churches. Everyone welcome. n Shady Grove Baptist Church will have an installation service for its new pastor, Rev. George W. Henderson, and First Lady, Catherine Henderson, on Sunday, Nov. 28, with a pre-installation praise program beginning at 3:30 p.m. The formal installation program will begin at 4 p.m. Speaker will be Bishop Anthony L. Jinwright, senior pastor of the Greater Salem Church, Charlotte. The program theme is “A Shepherd After God’s Heart.” Guest speaker for the 11 a.m. worship service will be Elder Joretta Russell, associate minister of Greater Salem Church, Charlotte. A reception will follow the program.
Holiday closings n The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection Department and Recycling Center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25, and Friday, Nov. 26, in observance of Thanksgiving. All overflow will be picked up on Thursday, Dec. 2, and Friday, Dec. 3.
Special events n The 100-voice Ambassador Baptist College chorale and selected soloists will be singing excerpts from George Freidrich Handel’s Messiah on Friday, Nov. 26, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 28, at 2:30 p.m. Selections include “For Unto Us a Child is Born” and “Hallelujah Chorus.” Both concerts will be in the R.A. Torrey Auditorium on the college campus and are free. A nursery for young children will be provided. The college is located at 101 Stockton St. in Lattimore, N.C., between Shelby and Forest City.
