Wrecker company owner cited; cop said he didn’t follow orders
Ledger Staff Writer
A Gaffney wrecker company owner was issued a 4-point citation for disobeying police orders while responding to remove a vehicle involved in an accident on Sunday, police said.
Tyra Michael Crow Jr. of 711 Bonner Lake Road, Gaffney, is scheduled to appear before a municipal judge Jan. 11 at 1:30 p.m. after receiving the traffic ticket.
Officer Scott Tallent of the Gaffney Police Department was directing traffic at Hetty Hill and Frederick streets Sunday when Blanton’s Wrecker Service was requested to remove one of two vehicles involved in an 11 a.m. wreck at the intersection.
Tallent cited Crow because he failed to obey his traffic directions, the officer said. While allowing traffic to pass in one direction, the officer told Crow to stop his oncoming wrecker by using hand signals, his whistle and by yelling at the driver to stop.
A conviction for disobedience to a police officer carries a 4-point penalty, according to police.
Crow was unavailable for comment Tuesday afternoon, but his father, Michael Crow Sr., spoke about the incident.
“He’s not going to plead guilty,” Crow Sr. said from Blanton’s Wrecker Service and Body Shop, 1901 Cherokee Ave., Gaffney. “He’s got three or four witnesses who said he didn’t do anything.”
