Blacksburg places three on all-region team

The Blacksburg Wildcats didn’t enjoy huge success on the football field, but they still placed several players on the all-region team.

The Wildcats finished with just one region victory but placed three players on the all-region team.

Defensive tackle Bruce Allen, the Wildcats’ leading tackler, was selected for the second year in a row.

“He was a leader on our defense,” Blacksburg coach Robbie Blanton said.

Center Adam Kirby and running back Quinton Hemphill also were all-region picks.

Quinton Hemphill Kirby never missed an offensive snap this season.

“Adam was definitely one of our team leaders,” the Blacksburg coach said.

Hemphill was the team’s leading rusher.

“He put our running game into his hands,” Blanton said. “He did a great job for us.”

Jonesville, the region champions, had a region-high six selections, including quarterback Jare Gault, Cameron Hames, Pernell Thompson, Cody Guyton, Brandon Eison and Rodney Davis.

Whitmire, which finished second in the region had the coach of the year in Louie Alexander and the player of the year in Brad Epps.

Adam Kirby Landrum placed four players on the all-region team, including Marion Gramlin, Josh Kirby, Jonathan Tillotson and Andrew Bridges.

Christ Church, which missed the playoffs, placed Penn Ely and Jack Cebe on the team.
