Latoya Robbs scored 15 points and Doristean Norris added 10 but it wasn’t enough as the visiting Byrnes Lady Rebels topped the Lady Indians, 49-39.
The Lady Indians started quickly by jumping out to a 22-17 halftime lead.
Robbs keyed the run with nine points and Norris added four in the second quarter.
Breanna Watkins connected on a three-pointer to give the Lady Indians a 31-25 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
But the Lady Indians helped fuel Byrnes’ fourth-quarter rally by turning the ball over.
Sierra Edwards’ jumper gave the Rebels a 34-33 lead with 4:30 left to play.
Lakya Rice followed with another basket to push the Lady Rebels’ advantage to 36-33
After a Gaffney turnover, Edwards made it 38-33 before Watkins pulled the Lady Indians within three.
Edwards then answered with a three-pointer to extend Byrnes’ margin to 41-36 with just 2:36 left to play in the game.
The Lady Rebels finished the game on an 8-4 run for the final margin of victory.
“We really played well in the second and third quarters but we didn’t play well in the fourth quarter,” Gaffney coach Roger Patterson said. “We have some things we have to work on, but we’ll get better.”
Both teams struggled offensively in the early going. Byrnes led just 6-5 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Indians, who fall to 1-2, will travel to Dorman on Friday before hosting Union on Saturday in a early-season rematch. Gaffney topped the Lady Yellow Jackets last Friday for its only win of the season.
