MAULDIN – Wednesday, Nov. 3, marked the beginning of "Ten Days of Giving," Bl-LO's chainwide event of donating millions of dollars to charities that are recipients of this year's BI-LO Charity Classic golf tournament.
Among the recipients was the Cherokee Children's Home, which received a check for $3,200.
"We are so pleased to be supported again by BI-LO through their BI-LO Charity Classic," said Judy Nix, the Children's Home's director of development. "BI-LO has been such a loyal friend of the home and we appreciate their generosity. This donation will assist us as we work to meet the needs of some very special and deserving children."
The 2004 BI-LO Charity Classic raised over $3.7 million in its 21st annual event which took place on June 14 in upstate South Carolina. This breaks the tournament's record of $3.2 million set last year.
Recognized as the nation's largest one-day benefit golf tournaments, the BI-LO Charity Classic hosted more than 1,140 amateur golfers on 11 courses. The tournament raises funds for charitable organizations in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.
"We want to make a big impact on the charities in each community where we have a BI-LO store," said Dean Cohagan, BI-LO's president and CEO. "The money we raise significantly impacts literally thousands of lives and we hope that our Ten Days of Giving will be an early gift for many groups struggling to make ends meet. Needs continue to increase each year and so we try to step up our giving."
