A Gaffney woman was killed Thursday evening when the car she was driving struck a tree and overturned on Nature’s Trail.
Debra Ann Burke, 46, was traveling south in a 1998 Mercury Sable around 6 p.m. when she drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree, said Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Burke’s vehicle continued through a driveway, became airborne and overturned. The vehicle then struck a stack of cement blocks.
Burke was the lone occupant and was not wearing a seatbelt, Robinson said. She was transported by EMS to Upstate Carolina Medical Center where she died.
Coroner Joe Vinesett said an autopsy performed in Newberry confirmed Burke died from injuries suffered in the accident.
Burke was the manager of the Fast Point convenience store on O’Neal Street.
