Support groups

n AA meetings are held in Gaffney on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m. on Carlisle Street in the building behind Limestone Methodist Church. If you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend these meetings.

n The Cherokee County Literacy Association will hold a workshop for potential tutors on Thursday, Jan. 27, Monday, Jan. 31, and Tuesday, Feb. 1, from 6-9 p.m. at the literacy office, 409 W. Buford St. Anyone interested in becoming a tutor is asked to call 487-2707. The workshop is free, but there is a $10 fee for materials.

Church news

n The Gospel Choir of Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 35th anniversary Sunday, Jan. 16, at 3 p.m. Church choirs from both Carolinas have been invited to participate.

n Eastside Baptist Church, 1284 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg, will have its third Saturday night singing Saturday at 7 p.m. Guests will be the Bridges Quartet and the Golden Valley Crusaders.
