Rotarians to host breakfast

The Blacksburg Rotary Club will be hosting its first Breakfast for Literacy at Applebee’s on Floyd Baker Boulevard in Gaffney on Saturday, Feb. 5, from 8-10 a.m. The breakfast will include pancakes, bacon, orange juice and coffee. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased from all club members, including Ed Elliott at Correll Insurance in Gaffney and Danny Ham at First National Bank of the Carolinas, Kirby’s Flowers and Gifts and the Blacksburg Times in Blacksburg. All money made from the fundraiser will go towards the club’s literacy projects.

Phyllis Jones, club president, said, “We are thrilled to have Applebee’s open its doors for us in this effort to raise money for literacy. Our club members, who will be serving, are looking forward to this fun time for a great cause. Several businesses have donated items for a drawing every 30 minutes, and we look forward to a great time.”

The Blacksburg Rotary Club has made literacy its focus for several years.

“We are excited about this opportunity to help the children and youths in our community by purchasing books for the Blacksburg Library and working with the Cherokee County First Steps in its partnership with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library,” Jones said. “We will be receiving some matching money from Rotary District 7750, so we encourage as many of you as can to help us.

“We are pleased to help First Steps ensure that every child from birth to age five in Cherokee County receives an age-appropriate book each month through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Join the Blacksburg Rotary Club’s Breakfast for Literacy at Applebee’s as we encourage the children and youths of Cherokee County to become readers for life.”
