School district seeking businesses for job shadowing program Feb. 14-18
Blacksburg and Gaffney High School 11th grade students will participate in National Groundhog Job Shadowing Observance February 14-18. Job shadowing gives students the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and experience as they explore the world of work. Students will be paired with persons in career fields of interest to them. This will give students an opportunity to ask questions as they observe what really happens in the work place. Shadowing is a win-win situation for students and employers. This one-day experience will provide students with an opportunity to learn about the educational requirements, skill requirements, and characteristics of the job. It provides employers with an opportunity to help prepare the future workforce, show students career possibilities in different businesses, and share knowledge and skills. Eleventh grade students are encouraged to take advantage of this unique opportunity to experience the “World of Work.” Students and parents who would like more information about the shadowing experience may contact the school guidance office. Businesses interested in participating in the shadowing program should contact Dr. DeeDee Cleveland, School-to-Work Coordinator, 864-902-3572, or e-mail deedee.cleveland@cherokee1.k12.sc.us.
