Tessie H. Wyatt
Retired from Hamrick Mills and Butte Knitting Mills
COWPENS – Tessie Mae Helton Wyatt, 72, of 140 Lantel Road, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, in Spartanburg Hospital for Resto-rative Care.
A native of Cowpens, she was the widow of John Henry Wyatt and daughter of the late Jim Helton and the late Onnie Willis Helton.
Mrs. Wyatt retired from Hamrick Mills and also retired from Butte Knitting Mills. She loved cooking and gardening and was a loving mother. She was a member of Love Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are daughters, Judy Bailey and husband, Tracey, of Cowpens and Terry Sellars and husband, Mack, of Fairforest; grandchildren, Kim Johnson, Bryan Thompson and Cindy Harlan; great-grandchildren, Lauren Johnson, James Sellars, Christina Sellars and Joshua Johnson; brothers, Otha Helton, Willie Helton, both of Chesnee, and Herbert Vaughan of Gaffney.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Wyatt was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Sellars.
Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David Bosler. Burial will be in Love Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Thompson, James Sellars, Joshua Johnson, Bill Johnson, Mark Bailey and Micah Harlan.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Judy Bailey, 138 Lantel Road, Cowpens.
Robert E. Spencer
Navy veteran of WWII
CHESNEE – Robert Edward Spencer, 84, of 1205 Hwy.11 West, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at Inman Healthcare.
A native of Spartanburg County, he was the widower of Frances Jolley Spencer and son of the late John Z. Spencer and the late Lona Henderson Spencer. He was a member of Arrowwood Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Chesnee Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and David Harmon and Linda and John Pierce, all of Chesnee; a grandson, John Spencer Harmon and his wife, Miranda, and their daughter, Mary Meagan, of Chesnee; two sisters, Alvelda Bryant of Chesnee and Verna Ruth Bishop of Columbus, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Spring Hill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Cooper.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Ezell, Tony Ezell, Steve Beheler, Steven Beheler, Scott Jolley and Darrell Splawn.
The family is at the home of David and Barbara Harmon, 1213 Hwy. 11 West, Chesnee.

Services for Vernon Rydell Thompson, 44, husband of Sandra Watkins Thompson of 308 Peachtree St., will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Youngs Grove Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Larry Brooks. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Luther Shippy, Calvin Galmon, Bruce Adams, Zebulon Tate, Sandy Terrell and Danny Whitmire.
Flower bearers will be Linda McDonald, Anita Conley, Ruby Burgess, Betty Byars and Kathy Galmon.
Honorary bearers will be Chuckie Bethea and the Class of 1979.

Jackie Dean Cash
Gaffney native
Jackie Dean Cash, 58, of 100 White Oak Drive, Apt. 11, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Howard Cash and the late Nellie Wyatt Cash. He served in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Carolyn Wynette Hough, Jacqueline Maria Cash, both of Duncan, and Cassandra “Tweety” Cash of Greer; two sisters, Evelyn Cash Lail of Gaffney and Barbara Casey of Cowpens; a brother, Morris Winfred Cash of Pelzer; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cash was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Oliver Cash.
Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the residence.

Betty L. McKelvey

CHESNEE – Betty Lucille McKelvey, 70, of 148 Willingham Road, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at her home.
A native of Spartanburg County, she was the widow of Robert E. Lee McKelvey and daughter of the late Walter and Annie Lou Kimbrell Smith. She was retired from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, where she worked in the mail room. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. McKelvey was preceded in death by a son, Gerald McKelvey.
Surviving are a daughter, Sybil M. Allen of Chesnee; three sons, Jim McKelvey of Chesnee, Robert E. McKelvey and Roger Dale McKelvey, both of the home; three sisters, Ruby Lancaster, Faye Smith and Pauline Robinson, all of Chesnee; and one grandson.
Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold King.

Services for Johnnie D. Allen, 77, of 1014 E. O’Neil St., will be held today at 2 p.m. at New Mount Zion Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Roger Mason, George Kirby, Stanley Durham and Mary D. Jefferies. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

BLACKSBURG – Richard Hunter Lachman, 79, of 211 S. Shelby St., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Wendover Hospice of Cleveland County in Shelby.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of the late Bruno Lachman and the late Elizabeth Sandifer Hunter Lachman. He was a retired industrial minerals processor, member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and a former Rotarian.
Surviving is a sister, Dorothy Lachman, of the home.
Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Anne Parrott. The family will receive friends at St. John’s United Methodist Church fellowship building, 105 S. Rutherford St., following the service.

Joe T. Wilkie

Joe Thomas Wilkie, 68, of 355 Goldmine Road, died today, Feb. 2, 2005, at his residence.
A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Edna Earle Spencer Wilkie and son of the late Joe Berry Wilkie and the late Sara Jackson Wilkie. He was a retired truck driver for Alcoa, a member of Southside Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran, a Mason and member of Gaffney Lodge 186.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Penny Murray of Gaffney; a son, Tommy Wilkie of Gaffney; a grandson raised in the home as a son, Brandon Lambert; two sisters, Jennie Reynolds of Gaffney and Ann Robertson of Clarksville, Ga.; two brothers, Wayne Wilkie of Gaffney and Raymond Wilkie of Florida; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
The family is at the residence, 355 Goldmine Road.

CHESNEE - Arthur Brannon, 50, of 150 Greenway Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at 5:45 p.m. at his residence.
A native of Chesnee, he was the husband of Sylvia Moore Brannon and son of the late Mitchel Wilkins and the late Cleo Doode Wilkins. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church in Chesnee and was a former president of the Gethsemane All Male Chorus.
He was a member of Victory Masonic Lodge No. 141, Patron of Victor Chapter No. 35 Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Cherokee Consistory No. 267 and King Soloman Chapter No. 46, Royal Arch Masons. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.
Also surviving are three daughters, Dacia Moore, Karmilla Brannon of the home and Sheralle Smith of Chesnee; a son, Don McDowell of Charlotte; seven sisters, Lucille Gardner, Cecilla Meadows, Peggy McCleave, Rita Wilkins, all of Spartanburg, Danella Green, Geordine Wilkins, both of Chesnee, and Nancy Wilkins of Columbia; seven brothers, Ronnie Crawford, Eugene Brannon, Homor Brannon, all of Chesnee, Getty Wilkins, Joe Dean Wilkins, both of Spartanburg, Terry Wilkins of Columbus, Ga., and Therllo Brannon of Lawton, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Miller. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Peyton Marie Smith
Peyton Marie Smith of 139 Deerwood Lane, infant daughter of Michael Smith and Nica Arlene Mullinax of the home, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
She was born in Gaffney.
Surviving in addition to her parents are paternal grandfather, Michael Gene Smith of Gaffney; paternal grandmother, Vina Medley of Gaffney; paternal step-grandmother, Libby Smith of Gaffney; maternal grandmother, Wanda Mullinax of Columbia; paternal great-grandparents, Thomas C. Smith and Judy Smith of Gaffney and George Childers and Woodrina Childers of Gaffney.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Timothy Mullinax; paternal grandfather, Jerry Lee Medley, and paternal great-grandmother, Helen C. Jones.
The family is at 139 Deerwood Lane, Gaffney.
