United we stand, divided we fall

Dear Editor:

President Abraham Lincoln never lost sight of his responsibility to preserve the union.

The crusade against slavery remained a secondary purpose of the war.

The media often speaks of wars — World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the war in Vietnam. I think they forget about the most important war of all — the Civil War, which resulted in the uniting of our country.

Don’t allow the “red states” and the “blue states” to divide our country. A country divided against itself cannot stand. Together we stand, divided we fall.

Mrs. Charlean S. Gaffney

Gaffney, SC

P.S. Please do not allow the renaming of a street to divide our city. It is my understanding that there is some controversy about the renaming of Meadow Street here in Gaffney. I am of the opinion that the decision to rename the street should be left up to the individuals who reside there.

staffs say thank you

Dear Editor:

Thank you everyone.

The Chiefs Chronicle staff (the school newspaper) and the Chief staff (yearbook) of Gaffney Middle School would like to thank Sunnydale Meats, Ms. Estes, Winn Dixie and Food Lion for their contributions to our fundraising hot dog dinner on Tuesday, Jan. 25.

Because of your help, the event was a great success.

Thank you for your support and dedication to the education of our children.
