United we stand, divided we fall
Dear Editor:
President Abraham Lincoln never lost sight of his responsibility to preserve the union.
The crusade against slavery remained a secondary purpose of the war.
The media often speaks of wars — World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the war in Vietnam. I think they forget about the most important war of all — the Civil War, which resulted in the uniting of our country.
Don’t allow the “red states” and the “blue states” to divide our country. A country divided against itself cannot stand. Together we stand, divided we fall.
Mrs. Charlean S. Gaffney

P.S. Please do not allow the renaming of a street to divide our city. It is my understanding that there is some controversy about the renaming of Meadow Street here in Gaffney. I am of the opinion that the decision to rename the street should be left up to the individuals who reside there.
