OBITUARY

Rev. John C. Miller Jr.

Presbyterian minister

WALTERBORO – The Rev. John Calvin Miller Jr., 60, of 204 Colleton Loop, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at his residence.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 23, 1944, he was the son of the Rev. John Calvin Miller Sr. of Blacksburg and the late Queen Victoria Miller. He attended public schools in Cherokee County and Liberty County, Ga. A graduate of Liberty County High School, he attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte and Carolina Central University in Durham and graduated from Benedict College, Columbia, with a B.A. degree in art. He received his M.Div. from Johnson C. Smith Interdenominational Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Ga., and served in the Vietnam War.

At the time of his death, he was pastor of Aimwell Presbyterian Church in Meyles Crossroad, S.C., and Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Walterboro. He was pastor of various Presbyterian churches in Grant, Okla., Gastonia, Pageland and Chesterfield, and was moderator for the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery in May 1997.

Surviving in addition to his father are three brothers, Aster Amziah Miller, Dewell Eugene Miller and Robert Walter Miller, all of Blacksburg; six sisters, Sarah Ann Odom, Valentine Victoria Edwards and Freda Marguerita Miller, all of Gaffney, Zelva Magnolia Hannibal of Wallington, N.J., Carolyn Christine Wise of Columbia and Bertha Revella Miller of Charlotte; a cousin, Bruce Means, and a nephew, Derick Odom, both of Charlotte, who were raised in the home; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Gaffney. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
