Elsie Jolly-Cooper

Retired beautician

Elsie Lee Jolly-Cooper, 79, wife of Jay Cooper of 2452 Overbrook Drive, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Jolly-Cooper was born in Gaffney on Oct. 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Vivian Dane Jolly and Rachel Whelchel Jolly. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and member of Midway Baptist Church of Gaffney and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired beautician and formerly owned and operated the Friendly Beauty Salon in Union.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a stepson, Troy Cooper of Gaffney; a stepdaughter, Sandra Cooper of Gaffney; six step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. James Blackwood.

Pallbearers will be Harry Lee Smiley, Jeff Whelchel, Donnie Cooper, Henry Jolly, Bryan Patterson and Tim Spencer.

Luella E. Buchanan

Mother of Gaffney resident

Luella E. Buchanan, 100, of Delaware, Ohio, formerly of Canton, Ohio, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the Cherith Nursing Home at Willow Brook in Delaware, Ohio.

Born on Aug. 23, 1904, in Wheeling, W.Va., to Walter and Rilla McCahan Thomas, she was a graduate of McKinley High School in Canton and Canton Actual Business College. She resided in Canton for most of her life until moving to Delaware in 1998. She was secretary for First United Methodist Church, a secretary for Richard Parker at Blue Cross, and a piano teacher in Canton.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Elmer Chicky of Gaffney and Ruth and Robert McQuigg of Delaware; seven grandchildren, Brian (Sara) Chicky of Front Royal, Va., Paul (Annette) Chickey of Greer, Christine (Kevin) Power of Spartanburg, Andy (Debora) McQuigg of Minneapolis, Minn., Dan McQuigg of San Francisco, Calif., David (Becky) McQuigg of Delaware, Ohio, and Molly (Kim) Gilham of Vidalia, Ga.; nine great-grandchildren, Holly Burham, Brittany Chicky, Matthew Chicky, Roan McQuigg, Stewart Tucker, Meghan Kramer, Kendra Gilham and Kelly and Shelby McQuigg; two step-grandchildren, Kyle and Kertus Davis; a sister-in-law, Maryanne Thomas of St. Augustine, Fla.; and nephews, Richard Wingard, Robert and Thomas Feldbush and Richard Kagey.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Buchanan was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1970; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Harold Feldbush, Rilla Thomas, Ethel Jane and Richard Kagey; and brothers, Elmer and Charles Thomas.

Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home. A graveside service and interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Savior United Methodist Church, Canton.

COLUMBIA – Services for Annie Mae Inabinet, 87, of 811 Martha St., widow of Elijah Inabinet Sr., will be held Saturday at noon at Saint Dor-cas Baptist Church in North, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Henry Murdaugh. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

SPARTANBURG – Ed Eugene “Buddy” Brown Jr., 44, of 3231 Stone Station Hwy., died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in Richland Memorial Hospital.

Born May 5, 1960, in Spartanburg, he was the son of Peggie McAbee Brown of Spartanburg and the late Ed Eugene Brown Sr. He was associated with the family business, Brown Grocery of Gaffney, and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving in addition to his mother are a brother and sister-in-law, John D. and Janice Pridmore Brown of Gaffney; paternal grandmother, Myrtle Lee Brown of Woodruff; aunts and uncles, Jo Ann and Gene Justice and John and Helen McAbee, all of Roebuck, Ron and Judy Martinson of Walnut Grove, William and Nell Brown and Ray and Edna Brown, all of Woodruff; and a number of cousins.

In addition to his father, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his grandparents, John C. and Clara C. McAbee and E.D. Brown.

Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Hall and the Rev. Fred S. Quidley. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Carrie Mae Cartee

Chesnee resident

CHESNEE – Carrie Mae Cartee, 83, formerly of Piedmont Road, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005.

She was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lorell Cash Lockhart and was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Chesnee.

Surviving are three sisters, Lorena Cash, Ruby Randolph, both of Chesnee, and Rosie Tillery of Jackson, Ga.; and two brothers, J.C. Lockhart of Chesnee and Jimmy Lockhart of Inman.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at Eggers Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Revs. Harold King and Jason Williams. Burial will be in Springhill Memorial Gardens.

Family members are at their respective homes.

Cleopatra Davidson

Services for Cleopatra Knuckles Davidson, 67, of 409 Marion Ave., will be held today at 3 p.m. at Knuckles Chapel Baptist Church, conducted by Drs. Kerwin Wray and J.W. Sanders and the Revs. Mills McHam and Lawrence Davidson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Samuel H. Crowe

Painter and textile worker

BLACKSBURG – Samuel Howard Crowe, 67, of 131 Lyman Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, in White Oak Manor, Shelby.

A native of Gaffney, he was the son of the late Boyle Crowe and the late Ollie Grant Crowe. He was a painter and textile worker and a member of the National Guard and Cherokee Avenue Mission.

Surviving are daughters, Jean Moore of Blacksburg, Ann Winders, Cher Harris, Brenda Henderson, Vicki Humphries, Christy Crowe and Donna Upchurch, all of Gaffney; three sons, Ronnie Crowe, Ben Crowe and John Crowe, all of Gaffney; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Vassey of Grover and Mary Lamb of Shelby.

Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Chapel, conducted by the Revs. H.K. Moore, Ron Hawkins and Joey Turner. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Robert Mote, William Mote, Donnie Mote, Duane Mote, Dwayne Logan, Russell Thorington and George Miller.

The family is at 195 Keeney Drive, Gaffney.

Lola Mae C. Fisher

Retired textile worker

Lola Mae Childers Fisher, 80, of 109 Lamplighter Cove, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at her residence.

A native of Gaffney, she was the wife of Alfred Evoid Fisher and daughter of the late Landrum Ezell Childers and the late Ina Pennington Childers. She was a member of Harvest Ministries and was a retired textile worker.

Surviving in addition to her husband are four sons, Jack Edward McSwain, Earnest Paul McSwain, Thomas Rudolph Fortner and Larry Dean McSwain, all of Hickory, N.C.; a stepson, Johnny Evoid Fisher of Fallston, N.C.; a sister, Thelma Hodge of Gaffney; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fisher was preceded in death by two brothers, Monroe Childers and Coleman Childers; and five sisters, Vinny Childers Seals, Nellie Huskey, Lois Childers, Lila Childers and Margie Phillips.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Joe Crawford.

Pallbearers will be Edward Mayfield, Zanie Childers, Tim Childers, Marvin Childers, Johnny Fisher and Travis Childers.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Gordon Mortuary, Blacksburg, and at other times they will be at the home.

Johnny “Pig” Jones

Avid hunter and fisherman

Johnny Thomas “Pig” Jones, 50, of 2728 Corinth Road, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Gaffney, he was the husband of Ann Allison Jones and son of the late Bill Jones and the late Virginia Stowe Jones. He was employed by Custom Wood Products and was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Jones loved to hunt and fish.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Tracy Lynn Jones and Katie Leann Jones of the home; and a sister, Wanda “Booty” Ruppe of Gaffney.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Alfred Kiesling.

Friends who shared his love of hunting and fishing will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 2728 Corinth Road, where the body will be after 11 a.m. today.

Broadus F. Kelly

Truck driver

Broadus Franklin Kelly, 58, of 109 Coburn St., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Anderson, he was the husband of Sandra Christine Dudley Kelly and son of the late Lloyd Kelly Sr. and the late Mary Navy Kelly. He was a truck driver and member of The Salvation Army Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Tammy Christine Kelly of the home; a brother, Henry Nix of Biloxi, Miss.; an aunt, Helen Simmons of Wellford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Kelly Jr.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Salvation Army, conducted by Major David Johnston. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m.

Pallbearers will be Bob Ziegelheafer, Brian Ziegelheafer, David Wise, Dick Norris, Hoard McSwain and Paul Glock.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be the residence, 109 Coburn St.

COWPENS – Services for Isabelle Oglesby Johnson, 75, of 142 Wilkins Road, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Island Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. J.W. Sanders Sr. and the Revs. Tony Macomson, Dennis Black and James Armstrong. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Lester Johnson Jr., Mackie Norman, Reuben Norman, Carl Oglesby, Terry Oglesby, Zeb Oglesby and Mikala Posley.

BLACKSBURG – Services for Priscilla Mickles, 35, of 236 Jones St., will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Galilee Baptist Church, conducted by the Revs. Les Howard, Willie Wood, Dennis Spencer, Antonia Smith, Lillie B. Ford and Tony Macomson. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Friday from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of services. Body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Davis, Cleatus Hardin, Andrew Flack, Glenn Earls, Larry Byars and Mark King.

Mrs. Mickles died Feb. 6, 2002, in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

Edith M. Sellars

Homemaker

Edith Mullinax Sellars, 74, of 1243 McKown’s Mountain Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

A native of Gaffney, she was the widow of Boyce Earl Sellars and daughter of the late Fred Mullinax and the late Minnie Mullinax. She was a homemaker and member of McKown’s Mountain Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Rick Sellars, and his wife, Gloria Sellars, of Gaffney; a brother, Furman Mullinax of Gaffney; a sister, Millie Parker of Gaffney; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at LeMaster cemetery, conducted by the Revs. Dean Painter and Dean Patton.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Combee, Scott Mullinax, Jim Parker, Roscoe Upchurch, Dwayne Proctor and William Howard.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6-7 at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and at other times they will be at 407 Pecan St., Gaffney.

Rev. John C. Miller Jr.

Presbyterian minister

WALTERBORO – The Rev. John Calvin Miller Jr., 60, of 204 Colleton Loop, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, at his residence.

Born in Charlotte, N.C., on Nov. 23, 1944, he was the son of the Rev. John Calvin Miller Sr. of Blacksburg and the late Queen Victoria Miller. He attended public schools in Cherokee County and Liberty County, Ga. A graduate of Liberty County High School, he attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte and Carolina Central University in Durham and graduated from Benedict College, Columbia, with a B.A. degree in art. He received his M.Div. from Johnson C. Smith Interdenominational Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Ga., and served in the Vietnam War.

At the time of his death, he was acting pastor of Aimwell Presbyterian Church in Meyles Crossroad, S.C., and Hopewell Presbyterian Church in Walterboro. He was pastor of various Presbyterian churches in Grant, Okla., Gastonia, Pageland and Chesterfield, and was moderator for the Charleston Atlantic Presbytery in May 1997.

Surviving in addition to his father are three brothers, Aster Amziah Miller, Dewell Eugene Miller and Robert Walter Miller, all of Blacksburg; six sisters, Sarah Ann Odom, Valentine Victoria Edwards and Freda Marguerita Miller, all of Gaffney, Zelva Magnolia Hannibal of Wallington, N.J., Carolyn Christine Wise of Columbia and Bertha Revella Miller of Charlotte; a cousin, Bruce Means, and a nephew, Derick Odom, both of Charlotte, who were raised in the home; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Gaffney. Body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
