History museum discussed at sorority meeting Feb. 7

Zi Alpha Delta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Monday, Feb. 7, at the home of Billie Taylor.

Margaret Smith was in charge of the program and introduced the speaker, Jane Waters, of the Cherokee Historical and Preservation Society.

Mrs. Waters discussed plans for the new History and Arts Museum. CHAPS purchased the former Central Elementary School that will become the museum. The building and grounds will be renovated to include the history museum, community gathering place, arts museum and gardens.

Sorority members learned that Cherokee County is the only county in South Carolina that does not have a museum dedicated solely to its history.

After the program, Shirley Turner called the meeting or order and led in the opening ritual. Twelve members answered the Greek roll. There were reports from officers and all committee. The service for February will be small items to be donated to Magnolia’s of Gaffney for bingo prizes. Also there will be a donation to the library.

Members voted on the Valentine Queen who was crowned at the group’s social at the Sagebrush on Valentine’s Day. Libby Reed was chosen the queen for 2005.

The next meeting will be on March 7 at the home of Ann Loftis.
