career highs

Former Gaffney High star AZ Reid had 11 points and 12 rebounds - both career highs - as High Piont University hung on for a 79-72 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.

Reid is a 2-time all-state performer for the Indians.

Brown earns

Player of the Week

Former Gaffney High tennis standout Lauren Brown was named the season’s first South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday.

Brown, a sophomore for Presbyterian College, led the Blue Hose to a 2-1 mark to open the season. She posted a 2-1 record at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles as PC defeated Charleston Southern and Coker College.

Brown beat Coker’s Jennifer Crocker, 6-0, 6-0 and CSU’s Rebecca Franzi, 6-0, 6-3.

LC netters

sweep Belmont Abbey

In their first CVAC match of the season, the Limestone men’s and women’s tennis teams swept Belmont Abbey at the Emmie Rector Tennis Center.

The Limestone men’s team breezed through its match for an 8-0 victory over the Crusaders. Limestone’s closest matches came in the No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles.

Nic Steffen and Christoffer Sodemann topped Aaron Miller and Andrew Gilmour 8-4 while Peter Hopper won his singles match over Jimmie Whitman, 6-3, 6-4.

The Lady Saints won their match, 6-3.
