GHS science fair winners announced
Gaffney High School student Amber Wray can offer advice on staying warm at football games based on the results of her science fair project.
Wray was the school’s 2005 science fair winner for her work in testing the effectiveness of different fabrics in retaining heat. She put various treatments on fabrics like cotton, fleece and flannel before washing the clothing and testing how well it kept a person warm.
Fleece proved to be the warmest fabric.
School winners will advance to the regional science fair at USC Upstate in Spartanburg.
The awards ceremony will be held March 26 at 10 a.m. in the National Guard Armory building.
The 2005 science fair winners are: Biology - Amy Ellison (first place), Sadie Dollar and Sarah Hamrick (honorable mention); Behavioral Science - Amanda Smith (first place), Kristen Elder and Zach Bridges (honorable mention): Earth Science - Jake Blanton (first place) and Eboni Wafford (honorable mention); Math/Computer Science - Jordan Propst (first place) and Cody Cash (honorable mention); Physics - Amber Wray (first place) and Anthony Dickson and Kristen Long (honorable mention); and Chemistry - Josh Gallman (first place) and Salena Bailey and Kristen Bratton (honorable mention.)
